Barring further interruptions from the weather, the players will contest Round 3 of the 2015 British Open Championship on Sunday.

Despite a delay of more than 10 hours on Saturday due to high winds, the players were finally able to complete the round they began on rain-soaked Friday.

The PGA Tour's official Twitter feed highlighted the reason for Saturday's lengthy delay:

Golf's governing body, the R&A, announced on Saturday its plan for the remainder of the competition. For the first time since Seve Ballesteros' victory at Royal Lytham in 1988, the British Open is set to finish on Monday:

According to Kristina Pydynowski of AccuWeather.com, the wind is set to drop significantly over the final two days of the Open, and while there will be some rain, it will not come close to the levels of downpour that affected play on Friday.

Here is the current leaderboard:

Tiger Woods Misses the Cut

Tiger Woods is the highest-profile victim of the cut made at the close of play on Saturday.

The 39-year-old's seven-over total ensured he wasn't even close to featuring in the final two rounds.

It is the first time in Woods' career that he has failed to make the cut in consecutive majors, and the former world No. 1 has now missed the cut in three of his last four.

As ESPN's Jason Sobel notes, his struggles at this year's Open represent an undesirable milestone:

TSN's Gord Miller pulled no punches in summarising the American's form in recent years:

However, as the Guardian's Ewan Murray reports, Woods is clearly still hopeful he can rediscover his earlier form:

To do so, Woods will need to overcome the mental block that has seemingly afflicted him.

For a player of his calibre and pedigree, this is certainly doable, but the longer his struggles go on, the less likely it is the Woods of old will resurface.

Dustin Johnson to Face a Strong Challenge

Following Round 2, Dustin Johnson sits atop the leaderboard at 10 under, continuing the excellent form he displayed in the U.S. Open in June.

As Jason Sobel highlights, Johnson has enjoyed a strong year in major tournaments so far:

However, starting behind the American are Englishman Danny Willett and Scotsman Paul Lawrie, who will enjoy the home support of the St. Andrews crowd.

Willett is thus far in uncharted waters, having never finished higher than 15th in a major before, while Lawrie won the British Open in 1999.

However, Johnson is yet to win a major himself, so it will be fascinating to see whether he can hold his nerve through Sunday to remain in contention.

Per his Twitter feed, the 31-year-old is feeling confident:

After his recent form, Johnson has every right to be. 2015 has been a big year for him so far, and a major win seems inevitable for a man who has come so close a number of times in the past.

Expect Johnson to enjoy another strong day of golf on Sunday ahead of what could well be a memorable Monday finish for the American.
