Mets Want Matz's Arm Ready for Starting Rotation
Wednesday, Aug. 26
DiComo noted that the team wants Matz to "stretch out more" before returning to the roster.
ESPN's Adam Rubin reported thatย Matz played 2.2 innings in an Aug. 20 outing with High-A affiliate St. Lucie,ย allowing one run on four hits while also giving up a walk on 41 pitches.
It's not clear how Matz suffered the injury, as he made his last start on July 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and threw six shutout innings.
The silver lining for the Mets is that their starting rotation has been excellent this season, withย Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom forming one of the best young trios in MLB.
Getting Matz back for the stretch run could prove to be very important as the team looks to maintain its lead over the Washington Nationals atop the NL East.
