Henry Walker Signs with Heat Through End of Season
The Miami Heat announced they reached an agreement with Henry Walker on a contract for the rest of the season after concluding a pair of 10-day deals.
Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel previously noted the forward made the trip north for the team's clash with the Toronto Raptors on Friday night:
Walker, who previously went by Bill Walker during NBA stints with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, has played 10 games (five starts) for the Heat this season. He's averaging better than eight points and three rebounds while playing 27 minutes per contest.
Before that, he went through a journey that included stops in Venezuela, the Philippines and multiple D-League squads since his time with the Knicks ended in 2012. Last month, he told Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun Sentinel he was surprised the NBA opportunity was presented.
"I didn't at all, to tell you the truth," Walker said. "I just stayed ready, just getting a lot shots and just working on my game and just trying to take advantage of the opportunities… I definitely didn't come in here expecting to be in the lineup or anything like that. I was just blessed I had the opportunity to even get the call-up."
He hasn't been shooting the ball well—34 percent from the field—but he's been active and has used his energy to provide Miami with a spark. It also helps that he's able to play multiple positions for a team that needed some depth.
Now he'll get the rest of the season to keep proving himself at the NBA level.
