Jordan Sets Clippers Record with 9 Consecutive 15-Rebound Games
Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan set a new franchise record in Monday's 110-105 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, recording his ninth consecutive game with 15 or more rebounds, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Jordan finished the night with 12 points, 18 boards, an assist, a steal and four turnovers in what was actually a pretty modest performance by his recent standards.
With Blake Griffin missing the past 10 games due to a staph infection in his elbow, Jordan has often logged minutes in the high-30s or low-40s, going well above his season-long average of 34.1 minutes.
He has topped 20 rebounds in four of those 10 games, including back-to-back 20-20 outings against the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets on Feb. 9 and 11.
While his free-throw shooting remains a major concern, Jordan has been so excellent in other areas that the Clippers can tolerate his 41 percent conversion rate from the line this season.
With 14.4 rebounds per game this season, the 26-year-old center comfortably leads the NBA, well ahead of Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond, who is averaging 12.9 per contest.
Jordan also ranks fourth in blocks, with his 2.28 per game narrowly trailing Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert's 2.29 for third place.
As for the franchise record Jordan broke, it was previously held by Michael Cage, who recorded eight straight games with 15 or more rebounds in April 1988, per basketball-reference.com's play index.
Cage carved out a 15-year career from 1984-85 to 1999-2000 as a rebounding specialist, notably leading the NBA with 13.0 boards per game during the 1987-88 campaign in which he set the franchise record that is now owned by Jordan.
