The Bucks announced the return on Saturday.
How Carter-Williams' Return Impacts Cleveland
The 2015-16 season figures to be pivotal with regard to Carter-Williams' development on the court. He has the full year to work with head coach Jason Kidd, a former point guard with a somewhat similar skill set offensively, and the Bucks figure to be playoff contenders in the Eastern Conference.
Plus, at a certain point, the flaws in Carter-Williams' game will become more worrying if they continue to linger this long into his career.
Clearly, the 76ers didn't foresee MCW as their point guard of the future; otherwise, they wouldn't have traded him in the first place.
If MCW shoots around 40 percent from the field for a third straight year, it will inevitably beg the question as to whether he's truly a cornerstone player for a team with playoff aspirations. Winning in today's NBA is difficult with a point guard who cannot shoot well from the floor.
The Bucks will certainly hope Carter-Williams is the real deal because it would be a lot easier to explain trading Brandon Knight. The good news in the short term for Milwaukee is the fact it can call upon Greivis Vasquez and Jerryd Bayless to replace MCW while he's out with injury.
While Vasquez and Bayless cannot match Carter-Williams' contributions on the defensive end of the floor, the offense will see a lift with the return of its regular point guard.
