Hawks Become 10th Team to Win 30 Games in 32-Game Stretch
With Sunday's 112-100 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Atlanta Hawks became the 10th team in NBA history to win 30 or more games in a 32-game stretch, per ESPN Stats & Info.
The victory extended Atlanta's franchise-record winning streak to 16 games, after the team broke the record with Friday's 103-93 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Following a modest 8-6 start to the season, Atlanta started its run of dominance with a nine-game winning streak from Nov. 28 to Dec. 12, before losing a 100-99 nailbiter to the Orlando Magic on Dec. 13.
Just two days later, the Hawks started a five-game winning streak, which ended Dec. 26 with a surprising 107-77 home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Hawks then beat that same Bucks squad in Milwaukee the next day, and they're still waiting on their next loss.
Now sitting at 37-8 on the season, Atlanta holds a seven-game lead over the Washington Wizards for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Atlanta's plus-7.3 point differential is tied with the Los Angeles Clippers (30-14) for second best in the NBA, behind only the plus-11.9 mark owned by the dominant Golden State Warriors (36-6).
While Golden State is probably still the favorite to finish this season with the league's best record, Atlanta may be able to take advantage of a more favorable Eastern Conference schedule to jettison ahead of the Dubs.
Atlanta is on pace for 67 wins, which would smash the previous franchise record of 57, set in 1986-87 and matched in 1993-94.
