Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers: What Are Experts Saying About Dallas?

John OwningJan 7, 2015

One down and three to go for the Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions last week, and they need three more victories to win the Super Bowl. The next team in their path is the Green Bay Packers

The Cowboys have seemingly reversed their late-season luck this season as they are riding a five-game winning streak into Lambeau Field.

This game will pit two of the best offenses that the NFL has to offer against each other in a game that is sure to bring fireworks.

As these two teams are set to face off, there are many opinions and storylines from experts around the league. Here is a look at some of the most interesting takes that the experts have ahead of this divisional-playoff matchup.

Bucky Brooks: Cowboys Defense Can Stop Packers Offense

1 of 4

The Cowboys defense has done a stellar job as of late, and one analyst thinks they have a shot to continue.

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks said

"

This might look like a lopsided matchup on paper, but after studying the All-22 Coaches Film on both teams, I believe Dallas has the right defensive formula -- provided the unit puts forth an exceptional performance -- to defuse Green Bay's high-powered attack.

"

The Packers have one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL with the best quarterback in the league, Aaron Rodgers. This is a tall task for the Cowboys defense, but there is optimism that it can slow down the Packers offense enough to get a win.

However, the idea that it can stop or significantly slow down the Packers offense is hard to believe. For that to happen, the Cowboys would need all three levels of the defense to play better than it has at any point this season.

If the Cowboys defense can hold the Packers under 30 points, their offense should be able to execute well enough for the team to get a win.

Rick Gosselin: Cold Weather Favors the Cowboys

2 of 4

While many Cowboys fans are worried about how the team will play in the frigid temperatures in Green Bay, one writer is not worried one bit.

The Dallas Morning News' Rick Gosselin opined

"

So the Cowboys should embrace the cold. With this running game, the cold can become their friend. So pull for cold weather Sunday. The colder the better.

Then bundle up.

"

The Cowboys do appear to be a team built for the cold as they bring a dominant running game and a defense that has done a great job against the run all season.

However, with Tony Romo's back issues, one has to wonder how it will react to the cold as he has not had to deal with that type of weather as of yet.

The Cowboys are at their best when they run the ball and control time of possession, no matter what the weather is.

However, if the cold weather can limit the Packers' vaunted passing attack, it will only help the Cowboys in the end.

Chris Simms: Dez Bryant Will Have More Receiving Yards Than Jordy Nelson

3 of 4

The Packers and Cowboys have two of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Jordy Nelson and Dez Bryant. It is a toss-up as to who will have the better game, but Bleacher Report's Chris Simms believes that Bryant will have the more productive day.

The thing that Bryant has going for him is that he is the No. 1 target for the Cowboys in every game and situation, which is not the case for Nelson who has another premier receiver opposite him in Randall Cobb

The Cowboys need to move Bryant around to get him in the most favorable matchups possible. The Cowboys need their offense to perform much better than it did last week, and a big part of that will be getting Bryant in situations where he can dominate.

Bryant is one of the top wide receivers in the game, and this is another great opportunity for him to prove it as he outproduces Nelson.

Mike Freeman: Cowboys Only Team That Can Win in Green Bay

4 of 4

The Cowboys are the heavy underdog against the Packers, but one writer believes they are the only team that can beat the Packers in Green Bay.

Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman stated:

"

Green Bay will likely beat Dallas in the divisional round this weekend, but drawing the Cowboys was the Packers' worst nightmare.

There is only one team that can beat the Packers at Lambeau. It's not Seattle; not enough offense on the road. It's not Carolina; see Seattle. No team in the playoffs could beat the Packers at home except one: the Cowboys. Worst. Nightmare.

"

The Cowboys have won in tough environments before, as they went into Seattle and beat the Seahawks when they were thought to be invincible at home.

They have the unique ability to establish the pace of the game and enforce their will on opponents. They have a great offensive line that can wear down defenses and an efficient passing attack that can take advantage of any secondary.

If the Cowboys defense can get one or two timely turnovers; there is no reason why the Cowboys shouldn't win this game.
