Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets: What Are Experts Saying About New York?
If you thought things couldn't get much worse for the New York Jets prior to Monday Night's game against the Buffalo Bills, you couldn't have been more wrong.
The Jets were embarrassed by their divisional rival, 38-3, on a neutral field, as the offense was stagnant, the defense was soft and the special teams were ugly.
The entire organization is headed for a complete reboot this offseason, but there are still five more weeks left in the season.
Gang Green have nothing but pride to play for, but they have to bring a much better effort if they are going to avoid getting crushed by the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.
Click through to see what the experts are saying about New York heading into the Week 13 prime-time affair.
Ty Schalter, Bleacher Report: Everyone Must Go
1 of 4
It's time for the Jets to move on.
From everyone.
Bleacher Report's own Ty Schalter believes a complete makeover is needed for the franchise, starting with the dismissal of both Rex Ryan and John Idzik.
Schalter points out that Ryan is a capable head coach, but it's clear that things aren't working out in New York. It would benefit both the franchise and the coach himself if he was let go at the end of the season.
John Idzik, on the other hand, has proved to be an inept general manager in both the draft and free-agency fronts.
With the exception of Eric Decker, Idzik's big offensive acquisitions (Michael Vick, Chris Johnson and Percy Harvin) have failed to make the impact that was expected of them.
And apart from Sheldon Richardson, none of his draft picks has been very productive, and some have even been released.
Idzik only has two years on the job, but as Schalter points out, why should anyone believe he can succeed in the future?
Gang Green's a mess at every level right now, and they will continue to be unless major changes are made throughout the organization.
Rich Cimini, ESPN New York: Quarterback Change Is Shocking but Sensible
2 of 4
Geno Smith is back as the team's starter after spending a month sitting on the bench.
Michael Vick led New York to an upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers just a couple weeks ago, but his horrible play against the Bills last Monday led to his demotion.
Rich Cimini of ESPN New York was surprised by the quick hook but understood the reasons for it.
The Jets are sitting at 2-9, and the season is all but over. That means it's time to look toward the future. The final five games should give the front office a good idea of whether Smith is capable of being a franchise quarterback.
If Geno can produce, New York may give him one last shot early next season. If he once again fails in the trial run, the team will undoubtedly give up on the West Virginia product.
Seth Walder, New York Daily News: Starting Geno Not Rex's Decision
3 of 4
It's no surprise that the decision to turn back to Geno Smith was not Rex Ryan's decision, according to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News.
Ryan reportedly preferred Vick to the second-year signal-caller and rightly so.
Vick was much more productive in the starting role than Smith, despite the team's 38-3 blowout loss last week.
The veteran quarterback led some nice drives and avoided committing killer turnovers.
Smith, on the other hand, was awful in his first go-around in the starting job. He threw 10 interceptions and fumbled six times in eight starts.
The decision to start Smith was also one made with the future in mind, and it's clear that Ryan will be no part of the Jets' plans beyond this season.
The head coach has been held back by New York's quarterback situation throughout his tenure, and the problems continue in his final weeks on the job.
Every Expert: Jets Will Fall to 2-10 on Monday Night
4 of 4
Following Monday night's debacle in Detroit, the Jets are now unanimously considered one of the worst teams in the NFL.
Gang Green rank among the bottom-feeders in basically every major offensive category as well as a few defensive ones.
The team is being outscored by an average of 11.4 points per game, which ranks second worst in the NFL, behind just the pitiful Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Dolphins, on the other hand, are a very respectable team that is competing for a playoff spot, and they have owned the Jets in recent seasons.
Miami claimed double-digit wins over the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers, and it has taken the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos to the brink.
To put it simply, things could get ugly quickly on prime time if the Dolphins bring their game.
Every single one of Bleacher Report's experts predicts a Miami victory.
The same goes for ESPN (except former Jet Keyshawn Johnson).
And CBS Sports.
Basically, it's the Jets against the world.
If New York can pull off the upset, it would be a minor miracle in the Meadowlands.
