Tracking the Performance of Baltimore O's Prospects at the Arizona Fall League
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a piece highlighting the prospects who the Baltimore Orioles sent to the Arizona Fall League this October.
With the season past the midway point, it's time we take a look at how these guys are doing out west. Some are doing well, and some could use a little improvement, but overall, it isn't a terrible showing from the players who normally don O's gear.
Let's check in on what's going on out west.

10 Scorching MLB Takes 🌶️

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Parker Bridwell, Pitcher
Right-hander Parker Bridwell has pitched a total of nine innings out of the bullpen, and he's posted some iffy numbers thus far.
He's allowed only five hits and tallied eight strikeouts, but he's given up five runs (four earned) and issued five walks.
The positives and the negatives are evident in Bridwell's performance during this fall season, but of course, there's still time for him to improve upon his numbers before the end of the year.
Zach Davies, Pitcher
As the O's pitcher who went to the AFL slated to be a starter, Davies has performed pretty well after a rocky beginning.
His first start lasted just 1.2 innings as he allowed two earned runs while walking three, but he's since settled down. Start No. 2 saw him go three innings while allowing two runs, and each of his last two starts have been four-shutout-inning efforts.
In 12.2 innings, Davies has given up 10 hits, four runs and notched 14 K's, but he's also issued eight free passes, a number everybody would like to see go down.
Still, though, he's making progress, and that's what the AFL is all about.
Mychal Givens, Pitcher
The righty with the good fastball hasn't had much luck yet this fall.
In 5.2 innings out of the bullpen, Givens has allowed eight hits, five runs (three earned), and five walks while tallying just four strikeouts. His 0-2 record isn't what you'd want to see either, no matter how much or how little you put into the worth of a win-loss record.
It's obvious: Givens needs to limit the hits and walks, and in turn, he'll limit the damage to his ERA (4.76). A few more K's couldn't hurt either.
Ashur Tolliver, Pitcher
Left-handed pitcher Ashur Tolliver has only thrown 1.1 innings this fall and hasn't pitched since October 14. He's missed time due to a pulled hamstring muscle.
Seeing as how he's pitched a measly 1.1 innings, it wouldn't be fair to judge Tolliver based on his performance, especially when one considers that sometimes it takes these players a couple of outings to get things going.
In his brief time on the mound this fall, Tolliver allowed one run on two hits and struck out one. He didn't issue a walk, which is obviously a plus, even if he only completed 1.1 innings of work.
Hopefully, Tolliver can get back to work soon.
Mike Ohlman, Catcher
Appearing in seven games so far, Mike Ohlman has impressed with the bat.
He's currently riding a .333 batting average while stroking one double, driving in one run and working three walks in 21 at-bats. He has struck out six times, but when that's the only thing that can be complained about, then you know he's doing something right.
It's nice to see Ohlman find some success after the miserable 2014 minor league season he endured (.236 BA, .310 OBP, two home runs).
Jason Esposito, Corner Infielder
Playing in 14 games this fall, Jason Esposito has posted some iffy numbers.
His .268 batting average is certainly respectable, but he's worked just two walks in 56 at-bats, leading to his low .305 OBP. His power numbers could use a boost as well, as he's totaled just one double, one triple and one home run with five RBI.
From a corner infielder, a team would like to see more. But there's still some time for him to get his bat going.
Garabez Rosa, Outfielder
Right-handed hitting outfielder Garabez Rosa has been solid for the Glendale Desert Dogs this fall.
In 10 games, Rosa has totaled 37 at-bats, batting .270 in the process. He's hit one double, two home runs and driven in eight, but his OBP of .317 could use some work. The team would like to see him work more walks (three) while striking out less (11 times). Tossing in a few more doubles would be a plus as well.
Overall, though, one can't complain too much about the way he's performed in Arizona.
