Ben Roethlisberger Throws for Steelers-Record 522 Passing Yards in Win vs. Colts
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has led the team to an up-and-down season thus far but set a franchise record on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts in a 51-34 win in Week 8.
The 11th-year signal-caller threw for 522 yards, six touchdowns and a ridiculous 81.6 completion percentage. Adam Schefter of ESPN put the performance into perspective for the quarterback:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Cork Gaines of BusinessInsider.com shares how long it's been since a quarterback put up his numbers:
"Number of QBs since 1960 to complete 40 passes, throw for 500 yards and 6 TDS: 1, Ben Roethlisberger today
— Cork Gaines (@CorkGaines) October 26, 2014"
Roethlisberger also came close to the NFL record, held by Norm Van Brocklin with 554 passing yards. Despite coming up short of the record, he tied Boomer Esiason for fourth-most passing yards all-time in a single game.
Instead, he had to settle for another record, as Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network notes:
Roethlisberger discussed his remarkable afternoon after the game via USA Today's Jim Corbett: "We felt they couldn't stop us because we were just clicking. There has been a lot of great quarterbacks that have played this game. And it's just an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as a lot of those guys."
Coming into the game with 1,858 passing yards and 10 touchdowns, Roethlisberger had not gone for over 400 yards and no more than three touchdowns in a game this season.
Big Ben also had an absurd yards-per-attempt statistic, as Will Brinson of CBS Sports points out:
Just to pad the stats for Roethlisberger, the win sealed his 100th win in 150 starts for the Steelers. The only other quarterbacks to complete that feat are Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Tom Brady.
Moving forward, Big Ben has a chance to help lead the team to an AFC North title if he can keep putting up huge numbers. The Steelers are now 5-3 and tied with the Baltimore Ravens but behind the Cincinnati Bengals in the division.
With a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Ravens soon, Pittsburgh has a chance to win three straight and overtake them. Oddly enough, the last time the two teams played was the only time this season he hasn't thrown a touchdown.
