Anthony Dixon, Bryce Brown, Frank Summers' Post-Week 8 Fantasy Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldOct 26, 2014

The Buffalo Bills were without their top two running backs in Week 8. Squaring off against the New York Jets ensured that Buffalo didn't miss a beat in terms of overall offensive production, though.

Sunday's lopsided AFC East affair that went in the Bills' favor, 43-23, saw the victors benefit from six Jets turnovers but struggle to get their ground game going against a stout New York front seven.

It turns out the combination of Anthony Dixon, Bryce Brown and Frank Summers was a bit of a downgrade from the typical one-two punch of the injured Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.

From a fantasy perspective, there was little to like from the Week 8 triumvirate.

ESPN expert Matthew Berry correctly predicted the distribution of carries in his pre-game analysis, which didn't promise much from the Bills rushing attack:

Dixon got the majority of the workload, but he was obviously not getting the job done. That was in spite of an optimistic attitude prior to getting Sunday's start:

The more explosive Brown was also limited, while Summers' cameo netted just one touch, albeit a trip to paydirt. None of the backs had any receptions, though Brown was at least targeted three times.

If fantasy owners are attempting to scrounge out an RB2 or a flex option in a deeper league, it appears Dixon is the prime candidate at the moment in the Bills backfield. However, his underwhelming outing against the Jets did little to suggest he's in line for big numbers in the future.

As long as veteran Bills quarterback Kyle Orton can capitalize on the myriad of young weapons around him, Buffalo should continue leaning on the pass. That will further diminish the already miniscule value for all three of the current Bills ball-carriers in Dixon, Brown and Summers.
