Cannavaro, who is regarded as one of football's greatest defenders by many, is being investigated for the period between 2005-10, according to Sky Sports. He has had assets worth €900,000 seized after officials confirmed a legal enquiry into a boat-rental service he ran with his wife.
The prosecutor has confirmed the case relates to a "massive tax fraud put in place by the 'Fd Service srl', a luxury boat charter company that the former footballer and his wife Daniela Arenoso operated," per the aforementioned report.

Cannavaro represented Juventus and Real Madrid during the time period, which is set to come under examination. The 41-year-old, who retired at the Dubai-based club Al-Ahli in 2011, also represented Napoli, Parma and Inter Milan during his 19-year career.
He is famous for his heroic performances during Italy's 2006 World Cup win. In the same year, he became only the third defender ever to capture the coveted Ballon d'Or award, prior to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo taking grip of the sport's top individual prize.
Similar to Messi, it seems the Italian stalwart will now have legal proceedings to wade through. Leo and his father, Jorge, continue to deal with court proceedings over alleged tax evasion.

It is alleged the duo defrauded the Spanish state of more than €4 million by filing incomplete tax returns between 07-09, but Jorge insists his son was unaware of the family's financial dealings, reported by Reuters and via The Guardian.
Cannavaro can now expect similar media attention in light of his investigation.
