NFL Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz on Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams and More

Sean ODonnellOct 20, 2014

The NFL trade deadline looms large on October 28, and buzz regarding potential deals is beginning to swirl around league circles. Based on recent rumors, it appears the Seattle Seahawks' decision to send Percy Harvin to the New York Jets may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Several reports of potential trade targets have surfaced of late; however, one no longer appears likely following Sunday's action. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported possible interest surrounding Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller, but a broken collarbone, via ESPN's Christopher Harris, should put a halt to that:

While a deal for Spiller may not be in the cards anymore, there have been reports involving other players around the league. Let's take a look at a few names that could be on the move in October.

Vincent Jackson

Jackson, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' big-framed wide receiver, is garnering plenty of interest from several NFL teams, according to a tweet from Rapoport:

The 6'5", 230-pound receiver can be a matchup nightmare for smaller defensive backs. He flourished during his first two seasons in Tampa Bay, recording more than 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns in each. Despite inconsistent quarterback play this season, he still accumulated 344 yards and two scores through six games.

As Rapoport mentioned, the Buccaneers aren't exactly looking to move the wide receiver, but the team will certainly weigh all options. After all, if the price is right, the team won't be without a top-notch target, as Jackson's heir apparent, rookie Mike Evans, is already in the fold.

It is unknown to this point which teams could be targeting Jackson, but we can speculate that receiver-needy teams such as the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs could be in the mix.

Mike Williams

The Bills continue to be in the news regarding potential trade discussions due to head coach Doug Marrone's willingness to discuss the topic with media. Williams is only in the midst of his first season in Buffalo, and he may not make it a full 16 games, according to an early report from Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com:

Once general manager Doug Whaley shot down a trade request, Williams quickly changed his tune, via the Bills' official Twitter account:

Still, we can't rule out the possibility of the wide receiver being dealt. Whaley did state that he would be willing to trade Williams for the right price, via Rapoport:

Williams was brought in from Tampa Bay over the offseason and figured to have a complementary role to rookie Sammy Watkins before the season began; however, he was supplanted in the team's starting lineup by Robert Woods.

Aside from one big 80-yard touchdown reception against the Houston Texans in Week 6, Williams has added very little value to Buffalo's offense this season.

Jermaine Gresham

This former first-round selection could be on the move this season. The Cincinnati Bengals spent another first-rounder on fellow tight end Tyler Eifert in 2013, and the Notre Dame product is set to replace Gresham as the team's starter once healthy. Rapoport tweeted news of a possible trade and noted the tight end is in a contract year:

Gresham is a huge target, standing at 6'5" and weighing 260 pounds; however, he hasn't quite lived up to expectations in Cincinnati. With Eifert in the fold, it's unlikely the Bengals will re-sign Gresham in 2015, making him an unrestricted free agent. Trading him before the deadline will at least afford the team some compensation.

There are several teams in need of a pass-catching tight end—the Seahawks, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons among them. Depending on the asking price, it shouldn't be too difficult for the Bengals to move this tight end.
