Arsenal Transfer News: Jose Callejon Bid Eyed, Latest on Edinson Cavani
Arsenal will reportedly move for Napoli's highly-rated winger Jose Callejon after being offered him by a third-party agent.
According to Fichajes.net (h/t Metro) reports that the player will be the subject of a move by the Gunners, with a reduced fee of £15.9 million being touted.
Callejon was the subject of bids during the summer transfer window but Napoli refused to do business and retained his services. But Callejon is now said to be "desperate" to leave Italy and is being offered to teams around Europe, per the Metro.

The 27-year-old has started the Serie A campaign well, showing why his club originally wanted to hold on to him. He has grabbed four goals in his six domestic league matches this season, per WhoScored.com.
The player is essentially a wide attacking midfielder who knows where the back of the net is—but crossing is not really a strength of his.

He would add competition to the right-hand side of the Gunners attack and would challenge Theo Walcott for a starting place. Indeed, maybe the England international's continual and consistent injury problems might be a reason for Arsenal's interest in Callejon.
But if the Spanish player does become available at the cited price, a host of teams across Europe will fight it out for his signature.

Another player said to be a "step closer" to a move to Arsenal is Uruguayan hit man, Edison Cavani.
The player has been linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain for a number of months, despite only arriving in the French capital just over a year ago.
Oli Price-Bates of the Metro says the player will cost the Gunners a fee of £55 million, should a deal be concluded.
Arsene Wenger recently spoke favourably about Cavani and the difficulties the player faces at the French champions, per Price-Bates:
"I like this player a lot, I like his spirit a lot, but a feel like he is playing with his hand on the brakes. I have the impression that he is not expressing himself entirely. It is true that at the same time, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic has taken an important place in this PSG team by all accounts, there is little space for another striker around him.
"
But Price-Bates argued that Wenger's money could be better spent on other positions:
"As much as Arsenal could do with additional firepower up front; it is not their primary concern right now. With Nacho Monreal set to start at centre-back on Saturday against Hull, it’s obvious where Arsenal’s immediate issues lie.
Arsenal should use the money to sign another centre-back and a world-class defensive midfielder. These two acquisitions are likely to cost in the region of £40million, so there isn’t a lot of money left for a new striker.
"

Cavani has still featured prominently for PSG, despite the rumours and gossip. He has played nine times in the French league, bagging three goals, per WhoScored.com.
His purchase would be a strange one considering Wenger has just bought Danny Welbeck to add competition to Olivier Giroud in the striker's role when the French international returns from injury.
Price-Bates is correct in his assessment and Cavani, now pushing into his late 20s, would be a huge gamble at that price. It is likely that Cavani will end up in the Premier League should PSG opt to sell, but Arsenal would be the wrong destination.
Wenger needs a top level centre-back as soon as possible, and the club's injury crisis compounds this fact.
As good as the Gunners might be with the ball at their feet, they struggle to keep it out of their net on too often an occasion.
