Royals' Ned Yost Becomes 1st Manager to Win 1st 8 Postseason Games
In sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in the ALCS with a 2-1 victory Wednesday afternoon, Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost became the first skipper to win the first eight playoff games of his managerial career, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Yost's first career postseason victory came in dramatic fashion in the AL Wild Card Game against the Oakland Athletics. After erasing a 7-3 deficit, the Royals were able to emerge victorious thanks to a walk-off single off the bat of catcher Salvador Perez in the 12th inning.
Kansas City then went on to make quick work of the Los Angeles Angels—the team that owned the best record in all of MLB (98-64). Yost's Royals were able to complete the sweep behind wins from Danny Duffy, Brandon Finnegan and "Big Game" James Shields.

Keeping the brooms handy, Yost and his Kansas City squad defeated the Orioles by scores of 8-6, 6-4, 2-1 and 2-1 to clinch their first World Series appearance since being crowned champions back in 1985.
Yost began his managerial career with the Milwaukee Brewers, lasting nearly six seasons from 2003 to 2008 without leading the team to a playoff berth. This will be his fifth season at the helm in Kansas City, with 2014 representing the first postseason appearance of his career.
The Royals have improved in every season under Yost, coming a long way since his first year in 2010, when they won just 67 games and finished in the cellar of the AL Central. They logged 71 and 72 wins in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and were able to eclipse the .500 mark for the first time under Yost in 2013, posting an 86-76 record.
Although their win total increased by just three games in 2014, the Royals' record of 89-73 was good enough for second place in the division and a berth in the AL Wild Card Game.
Yost's career managerial record of 830-904 doesn't really jump out at anyone, but that could all be forgotten if he's able to continue this magical postseason run.
