Kevin Pietersen's Exit from England Squad Revealed in Leaked Dossier

Gianni VerschuerenOct 7, 2014

In the same week that Kevin Pietersen's autobiography is being published, ESPNcricinfo has obtained a five-page document that the website's David Hopps claims "played a central role in the ECB investigation that ended [his] England career."

The PDF file is a detailed summary of the team's tour of Australia between November of last year and January 2014, ending with the England and Wales Cricket Board's press release saying Pietersen would not be included in the squad in future.

There are several counts of behaviour detrimental to the team, focusing heavily on the relationship between Pietersen and team director Andy Flower and his criticism of captain Alastair Cook.

England Cricket later responded to the report via its Twitter account:

The situation continues to polarise the general public. In a poll conducted by BBC Sport, a small majority believed he should play for England again:

Pietersen maintains he was nothing but a scapegoat for the team's disastrous form at the time and the difficult relationships in the dressing room, culminating in a 5-0 Test loss to Australia, via BBC Sport:

"

The ECB needed a scapegoat. Flower had it in for me ever since he took over. When they sacked me they never gave me any reasons. I still don't know right now why I'm not playing for England. The ECB needed someone to walk, to depart from the team.

"

England cricketer Chris Tremlett is glad Pietersen at least had a chance to share his side of the story through his book:

The controversial batsman is still England's leading international run-scorer with 8,181 runs in Test matches and 4,440 in ODIs, per BBC Sport. However, his carefree lifestyle and explosive personality never matched well with the squad Flower was trying to build before his resignation.

His autobiography certainly won't help his case to don the England shirt again, per The Guardian's Andy Bull, and while this latest report likely won't be the last we hear of the situation, the chances of Pietersen ever playing for the national team again remain as slim as ever.
