Scott PolacekOct 6, 2014

Fantasy football owners who were counting on DeSean Jackson to win them a game on Monday night were likely thrilled with the wide receiver’s performance against the Seattle Seahawks. Here is a look at his final stats, as well as those of his teammate Andre Roberts:

Catches55
Receiving Yards15729
Touchdowns11
Targets119
Yards per Catch31.45.8

Jackson hauled in a 60-yard touchdown catch to put the Washington Redskins on the scoreboard in the second quarter. He also caught a 57-yard pass later in the game.

ESPN Stats & Info noted that Jackson delivering on the deep ball is actually a rather common occurrence in the NFL recently. What’s more, Jackson has a history of success on Monday night, which is music to the ears of fantasy owners locked in tight games:

Jackson’s teammate Roberts did not have the type of success that Jackson did Monday, especially in the yardage department, but he did find the end zone. It saved what would have otherwise been a disappointing fantasy effort.

The fact that Kirk Cousins targeted Jackson on deep passes Monday is encouraging moving forward for fantasy owners because Jackson’s best asset is his speed. If Jackson only catches one of those deep balls a week for a touchdown, it would represent a productive fantasy day. He had a healthy 11 targets Monday, so the opportunities are there.

If this becomes a common occurrence, Jackson needs to be seen as a lock for your starting lineup every week.

The same cannot be said about Roberts, who has yet to establish himself as a consistent option in the passing game even with Monday's touchdown. Niles Paul, Jackson, Pierre Garcon and even Roy Helu have been more involved in the aerial attack than Roberts this year (in terms of receiving yardage coming into Monday’s game), meaning you really shouldn’t count on Roberts.

Roberts may actually be a better receiving option than some of those names, but fantasy football is all about statistics. Until he racks up more yardage to go with the occasional touchdown, Roberts is not a safe fantasy option.
