R. Cory SmithOct 6, 2014

Turning back the clock is not easy, but Jermain Taylor (32-4-1, 20 KOs) and Sam Soliman (44-11-0, 18 KOs) will look to prove it can be done on Wednesday night. The two boxers are facing off for the IBF World middleweight title with both riding a streak of notable wins.

Soliman, 40, has not lost a match since 2008 and has a chance to retain the middleweight title in Biloxi, Mississippi. Following a victory over Felix Sturm for the belt, Soliman's first defense is against a resurgent fighter.

It has been nearly 10 full months since Taylor stepped into the ring, but the 36-year-old's recent record proves he has shown vast improvement. Equipped with four consecutive victories, Taylor has an opportunity to compete for a title for the first time since 2009.

Before the two boxers touch gloves, here's a look at the fight information and a breakdown of the match.

Fight Breakdown

Neither fighter is in his prime, but both have shown flashes of greatness recently. The only issue for Taylor is a potential distraction coming into the match.

Back in August, Taylor was arrested on charges of first-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault. Dan Rafael of ESPN spoke with authorities at the time of the incident and reported the news:

Not surprisingly, the fight with Soliman was in question but is still set for Wednesday night. A former middleweight champion, Taylor is still no doubt prepared for his huge bout in Mississippi.

Following the arrest, Aaron Nolan of KARK 4 in Little Rock, Arkansas provided his take on Taylor:

Despite his fall from the public spotlight due to four losses in five matches from 2007 to 2009, Taylor has proved he's still a fighter to watch. Of his last four victories, three have come by way of knockout, with the last two matches going a combined nine rounds.

During his career, Taylor has never lost to a fighter that had a loss previously in his career. Kelly Pavlik, Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham all had at least 24 wins and an unblemished record prior to fighting Taylor.

Heading into the bout, Soliman spoke about preparing for a potent Taylor, per BoxingNews24.com:

"

I like utilizing undefeated prospects for sparring, they’ve always brought out the best in me. ... Along with two here I had three undefeated fighters working with me in Australia which brought the total records of the five fighters to 63-0-0 (42KO’s).

I’m preparing for the best Jermain Taylor. I would never underestimate anyone and I believe he is still a world class fighter.

"

Taylor may be looking to prove he's truly back after defeating Bernard Hopkins twice in 2005, but Soliman is trying to show he's here to stay. The former middleweight champ has a chance to become a household name yet again, but he will need a decisive win over Soliman.

For Soliman, this is a chance to show he is worthy of keeping the middleweight title. A defeat of Sturm back in May earned him the belt, but a defense against Taylor would give him another notable win.

Both men will have a tough battle on Wednesday night, but it promises to be an exhilarating battle for the title.
