Original Text
The Kansas City Chiefs looked like the playoff team they were in the 2013 season on Monday night against the New England Patriots, but it wasn’t all good news.
The team’s official Twitter page updated fans on the health of wide receiver Donnie Avery:
Avery had two catches for 46 yards before leaving the contest with an injury.
He hasn’t been a real focal point in the passing offense over the past few weeks and only had a combined 26 receiving yards against the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins. However, he saw 13 targets in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans and finished with 84 receiving yards.
It was clear in that opener that Avery can be a major part of the offense if quarterback Alex Smith looks his way.
Still, the Chiefs may try to run the ball even more in the upcoming weeks with Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis anchoring the attack. It may lessen the importance of the wide receivers, but the team is going to need healthy pass-catchers on the field.
