WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from September 23
Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of this week's Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.
This week's Main Event was interesting for a few reasons. Not only did it actually have some storyline progression, but the pace of the show felt completely different from the average episode.
There were three matches and two in-ring segments. It kind of felt like watching an episode of Raw from the days where it was only one hour instead of two or three.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The strange thing was that none of the matches felt like they could be called the main event of the evening. They were all quick and only featured midcard talents.
Let's take a look at what went down this week on Main Event.
Slater Gator vs. Los Matadores
Adam Rose and the bunny joined the commentary team to watch Heath Slater and Titus O'Neil take on Los Matadores. Unsurprisingly, the bunny did not actually speak.
This may just have been the fastest match in Main Event history. Los Matadores won with a crossbody from the top rope after Slater was pushed into O'Neil, knocking him off the apron.
While this was a hard segment to enjoy, you have to admire WWE for running this program at all. It's giving much-needed time to some deserving workers, even if it is just a comedy feud.
Mock WWE all you want for having some ridiculous characters, but these are the kinds of gimmicks that make you appreciate the ones you love that much more.
Winners: Los Matadores
Grade: D-
Notes and Highlights:
- Slater and O'Neil had some new entrance music, which means WWE is planning on keeping them together for the time being.
- The Exotic Express was making noise throughout the whole match. Slater's annoyance was probably shared by a lot of people.
- The bunny had some sweet break-dancing moves after the match was over, which is the only reason this didn't get an F.
Twitter Reaction:
Mark Henry's Promo
Mark Henry came out in a suit looking very serious. He said the crowd encouraged him to get into the ring with Rusev even though they knew he was hurt.
He blamed the crowd for being hurt worse Monday than he was after Night of Champions. He read his statement from a piece of paper, saying that if he doesn't win, he doesn't feel their support.
Big Show came out and said he loves Henry no matter what happens. He said that if the crowd is going to boo Henry, then they have to boo the both of them.
It looked like the start of a heel turn for Henry, but Big Show seemed to calm him down after making a promise to knock Rusev out Friday.
This wasn't an especially great segment, but it felt real. The things Henry said are things you have to imagine every wrestler feels from time to time.
We as fans really have no idea what these guys put themselves through. They go out and put their bodies on the line for us, but we don't always show the appreciation they deserve.
Grade: B
Notes and Highlights:
- While a heel turn may not have happened on Main Event, there is a good chance it will happen on SmackDown.
- Mark Henry is one of the best actors in WWE today. You really believe that he means what he's saying.
Twitter Reaction:
Paige vs. Naomi
AJ Lee was on commentary for this match, which seems to be very common these days. She is at the table at least once a week, which is a very good thing.
She brings the kind of attention to the division that very few can because she plays her part perfectly and knows the business better than most.
Both Paige and Naomi got in some good offense in this match. Naomi is extremely athletic, making her an ideal opponent for the more manic Paige. They balance each other out well.
Given more time, these two could have put on a really great match, but they did some good work with the time they had. As Good Ol' J.R. always says, "You have to make the most of your minutes."
Paige got a dirty win by using the ropes for leverage, but AJ made her pay for it by coming in after the match was over and hitting her with the Divas title. It was kind of a heel move to hit Paige from behind, but the crowd seemed to like it.
Winner: Paige
Grade: C+
Notes and Highlights:
- Paige has a little bit of a new look with her new attire and jacket. It isn't much different but edgier.
- Naomi would be taken more seriously if she didn't do the move where she shakes her butt on her opponent's head.
- Naomi is so impressive. She is the only Diva who does some of the more athletic moves she pulls off. Headscissors and hurricanranas are just the tip of the iceberg with her.
- AJ seemed less crazy while on commentary. She was making good points and sounded coherent.
Twitter Reaction:
Bo Dallas vs. Kofi Kingston
Before the match got started, Dallas gave a promo telling Kingston to switch his catchphrase from "boom boom boom" to "Bo Bo Bo."
Dallas may not be the most exciting Superstar, but his technical prowess is often overlooked. This kid has what it takes to put on a good match; he just doesn't get many opportunities to show it.
What he needs is a feud with someone closer to his size and a few matches with more than three or four minutes. He proved his worth in NXT, but it's up now to WWE to let him show it to the whole WWE Universe.
Surprisingly, Kingston ended up getting the win with Trouble in Paradise, giving Dallas his second loss in two days.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
Grade: C+
Notes and Highlights:
- It's great to see Kingston again. It feels like it has been months since we've seen him, which Dallas actually pointed out during his promo.
- One win doesn't mean Kingston will be getting a push now. It seems more like Dallas will go on a losing streak, leading to an eventual face turn. It worked for MVP, so maybe it'll work for Dallas.
Twitter Reaction:
"Kofi exhibiting some personality and not just being a smiling babyface? I like it. I like it a lot. #MainEvent

MizTV
This week's MizTV guest was Dean Ambrose. Of course, Miz was accompanied to the ring by his stunt double, Damien Mizdow.
Miz asked Ambrose where he was during his absence and what kind of drugs the doctors put him on to help with his insanity. He also asked how Ambrose survived having his head put into a pile of cinder blocks.
Ambrose's explanation was basically that he isn't a normal person, which seemed to satisfy the crowd. Miz then moved on to Monday and asked how Ambrose escaped from a locked room with guards.
Ambrose humorously said there was a back door and that he isn't Houdini. Only Ambrose could take a generic answer like that and make it funny.
Miz got in his face, leading to Ambrose giving him a headbutt and then planting him with Dirty Deeds after sending Sandow out of the ring.
This segment was short and sweet. Ambrose looked both funny and dangerous at the same time, which is hard to do. Stone Cold perfected that kind of act, but Ambrose is adding some craziness to it to make it unique.
Grade: B
Notes and Highlights:
- Somebody found a way to make Miz's stupid jacket look even more ridiculous by adding random zippers.
- Sandow mouthing the words Miz was saying right along with him was perfect. This gimmick has gone from embarrassing to hilarious really fast.
- Miz actually gave Ambrose a pretty good introduction when he brought him out.
Twitter Reaction:
"Ambrose looks so excited to be on #MizTV. He's pretty adorable sometimes. #MainEvent
