Eagles vs. Colts: Twitter Reaction and Full Postgame Quotes

Kyle J. RodriguezSep 15, 2014

Another game, another loss for the Indianapolis Colts. This time around, the Colts found a new way to lose.

The team got out to a fast start, behind a surprisingly strong run-blocking performance and stout red-zone defense. The Colts went into the half up 17-6 and scored first in the second half to go up by two touchdowns.

But after the defense tired and turnovers doomed the Colts' offense, the Eagles came away with the 30-27 win as former-Colt Cody Parkey kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired.

There's plenty to talk about with this one, so into the reaction we go!

Pep Hamilton looked like a genius in the first half, as the run-blocking schemes worked to perfection and the Colts were moving the ball with ease. But Hamilton got a bit too cute as the second half wore on, continuing to force the run game after it had fizzled away and limiting Andrew Luck with quick screens and failing play designs.

Hamilton has the trust of the coaching staff and front office, but how much national pressure will it take before there is internal questioning of his performance?

Andrew Luck ended up throwing the ball 34 times, but many of those were called screens and quick slants that were destined to gain very little yards, which goes back to Hamilton's poor play-calling. But Luck was not good in the first half, with inaccurate throws stalling the Colts at times.

Make no mistake, however, Luck was great when the Colts needed a touchdown drive in the second half, and the interception was absolutely not his fault. Luck hurt the Colts in the first half, but the Colts didn't need him to be great with the run game working and the defense holding the Eagles to just six points. The Colts needed him to get touchdowns in the red zone, which he did.

Then when the Colts needed him most, Hamilton took the ball out of his hands.

We can't go too far without talking about this play. With just over five minutes remaining, the Colts chose to pass the ball for a first down, but T.Y. Hilton was tugged down, and the safety lurking behind (Michael Jenkins) picked off the ball.

What should have been a first down was instead an interception, and it was 100 percent on the officials for missing this call. The Colts went from going up two scores to giving up the tying touchdown on the ensuing Eagles drive.

It's pass interference, plain and simple. There is nothing else to say.

While the Colts defense was stout in the red zone for a half, it couldn't contain Chip Kelly for long. Nick Foles was simply bad, but it didn't show in the numbers as Darren Sproles and LeSean McCoy ran screen after screen to oblivion.

Kelly's scheme is simply remarkable, and it opens up space for playmakers all over the field. It's unfortunate that Hamilton's does the opposite for Indianapolis.

After the game, the Colts were not happy about the officiating, or their own execution. Pagano said:

"We didn't play a 60-minute ball game. Turnovers, long runs. Even when you play as well as we did in the first 30 minutes, you can't win a ball game when you beat yourself."

He also believed Luck's interception should have been chalked off: "We knew we had the field goal in the bag, I think everybody saw what happened on the play."

Luck was disappointed with the way the team executed in the red zone:

"You can't turn the ball over in the red zone, that's stupid. (Was it pass interference?) It doesn't matter what I think, it was an interception, and that's all that matters."

"No. A touchdown is more points than a field goal. We'd been running the ball well, but we'd also converted some big third downs passing the ball. If you convert that, you got it," said Luck when questioned whether there was ever a thought of a run on the interception play.
