New York Giants linebacker Jon Beason suffered a toe injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Art Stapleton of The Record received word from the Giants:
Following the game, head coach Tom Coughlin spoke about the injury (via Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News):
Beason had four tackles (three solo) before exiting. Former Boston College star Mark Herzlich replaced him at middle linebacker.
The former Pro Bowler has been dealing with a toe injury for months. He missed most of the team's offseason workouts and training camp while dealing with a sesamoid fracture in his right foot.
While Beason was able to get back in the lineup in time for last week's 35-14 loss to the Detroit Lions, it was clear he wasn't quite yet at 100 percent. He finished with only four tackles (one solo) as the Lions picked apart the middle of the field.

Beason was also absent for parts of practice this week, with head coach Tom Coughlin admitting his defensive anchor may be limited.
“We knew he would be limited, but I didn’t know he wasn’t going to go,” Coughlin told reporters. “They think he’ll play. I think if he feels a little bit better out here on the grass, he’s fine.”
Given their lack of depth at linebacker, the Giants can ill-afford Beason be out for any extended period of time. He compiled 93 tackles one interceptions in 2013 after coming over from the Carolina Panthers via trade and was rewarded with a three-year contract worth up to $19 million.
Subbing out Beason for Herzlich, who has been with the team since 2011 but provides little more than replacement-level depth, is a strain on a defense that's already not going to end up among the league's best. It'll be interesting to see if Arizona begins churning the clock on the ground to take advantage of Beason's absence.
