Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Should Let Kevin De Bruyne Go to Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund could very well have just saved the day for Chelsea.
It appeared the proposed transfer of Andre Schürrle to the Blues was all set. That was, until the speculation regarding Kevin De Bruyne heading to Dortmund reared its ugly head again. Sky Sports reported the midfielder has the Champions League runners-up as his first choice this summer:
"Borussia Dortmund's director of sport Michael Zorc claims De Bruyne wants to join his side and not their Bundesliga rivals.
...
Dortmund are also keen on the Belgian, however, and Zorc believes the player would rather wear their colours next season, thus jeopardising Schurrle's move to Chelsea.
"De Bruyne only wants to come to us," he told Germany's Kicker magazine.
Dortmund are keen on signing 21-year-old De Bruyne in a permanent transfer, although Chelsea appear reluctant to let him go and may prefer the loan option, which would favour Leverkusen.

This is a bit of a change from last Thursday, when The Guardian reported that De Bruyne would be moving to Leverkusen on loan as a part of the Schürrle transfer.
The allure of a permanent move to Dortmund would likely be very attractive to De Bruyne, as the club finished second in the Bundesliga, made it to the Champions League final and have a hole to fill after Mario Götze's move to Bayern Munich.
It's a move the Blues should follow through on as it would benefit all parties involved.
De Bruyne has been a part of Chelsea's recent strategy of buying young players and sending them out on loan before putting them in the first team. They've done it with Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois and Josh McEachran as well.
It's a smart idea as long as you have a long-term plan.
When it comes to De Bruyne, Chelsea seem to have nowhere to put the Belgian midfielder at the moment or anytime in the near future.
De Bruyne can play on the left wing and a little deeper in midfield, but his best position is in a central attacking role. That's a bit of a problem considering Oscar is only 21 years old and has taken to the Premier League very well. It's not as if Oscar is reaching the end of his prime, with De Bruyne just waiting to take over.
Oscar is the present and future at the CAM position.
Eden Hazard's got the left wing locked down as well, so De Bruyne doesn't have a bright future there, either, with the club.
If Chelsea wants to drop De Bruyne a little deeper, then he could be clashing with McEachran, who's at his best in a central midfield role. You'd solve the De Bruyne problem, but then you'd have to figure out what to do with McEachran.
Marco van Ginkel would also be a much better option for the central midfield than either McEachran or De Bruyne. He's a much more polished midfielder than De Bruyne and would be a great long-term replacement for Frank Lampard. He's been rumored to the club, and with the links between Vitesse and Chelsea, a deal shouldn't be too expensive or hard to complete.
His fee would likely be the same, maybe just a little more, than what the club would receive by selling McEachran or De Bruyne.
You could understand why Chelsea would want to keep De Bruyne around. He's a talented, young player, and it's always good to have reinforcements when a club is competing on multiple fronts. It's hard, though, to placate young players at the same positions.
It's important they play regularly in order to fully develop as a professional footballer. Players don't fulfill their potential by getting the occasional start.
De Bruyne will want to have a big role with the club down the line, and it's far from a guarantee that he'll have that at Chelsea.
He did very well with Werder Bremen this season, scoring 10 goals and adding nine assists in 33 league matches. Should they sell the midfielder this summer, Chelsea would still be able to get a pretty good fee. They may be hesitant to part with De Bruyne permanently, but it may be the move they have to make.
