NBA Trade Rumors: Why Magic Should Deal Dwight Howard to Nets
Rob Hennigan should give in.
The Brooklyn Nets can offer the Orlando Magic something that the Los Angeles Lakers can’t, and that’s the reason why they should deal Dwight Howard to New York.
Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld reported that Howard has met with Hennigan and asked for a trade to the Nets. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, though, Orlando has spoken to the Lakers about an Andrew Bynum swap.
If the Magic bait Brooklyn into offering them at least an equal package to LA’s—one centered on Brook Lopez and Marshon Brooks, for example—Orlando should grant Howard’s request.
Why, you ask?
Revenge.
You aren’t following? It’s quite simple.
Howard has handled his quest out of Orlando with just about as little professionalism as possible. He has demanded a trade multiple times, reportedly got Stan Van Gundy fired and ticked off Jameer Nelson to the point a fight nearly broke out.
Now, if only he held a one-hour television program to announce his official departure.
After once falling in love with a superstar, super-freak center, the Magic and their fans have to be tired of the Dwightmare that has been their last season or two.
Howard has triggered more head-banging moments over that time period than one can count. Therefore, trading him to the Nets—the most poorly-run franchise in the NBA—would be more than enough payback.
Wojnarowski tweeted this report on Brooklyn’s first signing of the summer.
"The Nets have reached agreement on a 4 year, $40 million contract with Gerald Wallace, league sources confirm. NY Post first reported.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 1, 2012"
They gave Gerald Wallace, a 29-year-old declining athlete whose only strength was his athleticism, a $10 million per year deal.
You can’t convince me that Billy King isn’t the reincarnation of Albert Einstein. But let’s regain the focus we lost from attempting to comprehend that mind-blowing signing of pure genius for a moment, shall we? Because King isn’t done amazing us.
Marc Stein and Chad Ford of ESPN also reported that the Nets want to acquire Joe Johnson—a 31-year-old with over $90 million left on a four-year contract—from the Atlanta Hawks.
Feel free to close your mouth when the awe wares off.
King is such a joke of a GM that trading Howard to the Nets would be downright punishment even if they re-sign Deron Williams. He along with absentee owner Mikhail Prokhorov are incapable of building a championship contender.
If the Magic deal Howard to Brooklyn and he signs a long-term contract, he’d long for the days he played in Orlando after he realizes the mess of a franchise that he demanded a trade to.
