Come To Think Of It...Pacman Jones Still a Gangsta

Bob WarjaMar 7, 2008

Adam Bernard "Pacman" Jones, formerly an NFL cornerback for the Titans, has certainly led a troubled life off the field.

Suspended indefinitely for being the very definition of a spoiled rich athlete, Pacman is now saying that he not only deserves to be reinstated by the league, but even has the gall to declare which team he wants to play for: The Dallas Cowboys. Yep, "America’s Team.”

You look up the definition of “jackass” in a dictionary and you’ll find a picture of Jones. And instead of learning from his mistakes, he has seemingly only learned how to keep making them.

Feb. 19, 2007 in Vegas, Pacman was showering cash down upon some strippers in a club when gunfire erupted and a bouncer “just doing his job” ends up with a bullet in his spine. Two others were also shot, with club members blaming Pacman for threatening to kill the bodyguard. Nice.

Prior to that, Jones had drawn the scrutiny of the police at least 10 times and has been busted on charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and marijuana possession, among other things.

In another incident, Darryl Moore, a convicted drug dealer, was the target of an investigation that yielded the biggest drug bust in Nashville history, with a ton of marijuana and cocaine discovered. Moore is not only a friend of Jones, but the Cadillac that was seized as part of the bust had "Pac-Man" embroidered in the front seats. In taped conversations, it was alleged that Jones not only did drugs but sold them out of his house.

On the field, he is an accomplished cover and return man. Off the field, he is a magnet for trouble. And he is still said to be showing up at strip clubs and hanging out with his Atlanta homies. Not a good way to let people know you’re remorseful.

In truth, Pacman doesn’t seem to be remorseful. Grudgingly, he admits that some things have been his fault, but he still seems to think the world owes him something for a troubled upbringing with parents who were largely out of his life.

Look, I’m not heartless nor am I against giving people second chances. But when you give someone second, third, and even fourth chances, and the guy still doesn’t seem to get it, well my friend, it’s time to throw the gauntlet down and that’s what NFL Commish Roger Goodell needs to do.

His one-year suspension hasn’t been enough. Keep him out another year and only let him return with perfect behavior. And when he screws up again, and he will, throw him out of the league forever.

Let it be yet another last chance for a seemingly lost soul.
