NBA Rumors: Warriors Don't Have Value To Acquire Their Delusional Trade Targets
The Golden State Warriors have wild dreams of glorious trades that they are not in a position to pull off.
They've had big hopes for completely reshaping this team with massive trades for a while now, but apparently those got pushed into hyper drive when they were able to hold onto their No. 7 draft pick.
That's not going to be enough to land the kind of players they are talking about here, though. The Contra Costa Times' Marcus Thompson fills us in.
"Golden State has long since had interest in Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala, who is exactly the playmaking athlete the Warriors need at small forward. Other small forwards high on their list, according to league sources, are Portland’s Nick Batum, Indiana’s Danny Granger and Memphis’ Rudy Gay. And don’t be surprised if the Warriors make a play for Atlanta forward Josh Smith.
"
What? No LeBron James on that list? They may as well have thrown him in there because they have as much chance at landing him as they do any of these other guys.
Sure, they have the No. 7 pick, but who cares? The seventh pick in this draft might land them Brian Scalabrine, but not much more. This is not a particularly deep draft, and teams are going to meet the offer of a No. 7 pick with a shrug.
And what else are the Warriors going to offer?
They have Stephen Curry, but it isn't worth it for them to trade him. He proneness to injury will kill his value on the open market. They have much more to gain by hoping he can stay healthy than the mediocre returns he would get on the trade market.
They also have David Lee, but his giant contract makes him unattractive. The only other piece to even discuss when looking at this kind of value is Andris Biedrins and his expiring contract, but is a team going to part ways with a player as talented as Rudy Gay or Andre Iguodala for an expiring contract and the No. 7 pick? No, they are not.
The best bet for the Warriors to land one of these guys is quickly make an offer to Nick Batum, who is a restricted free agent, and hope the Blazers don't match it while they eye their own free agents.
They need to forget about these trade delusions of grandeur.
