Odds Each of the Atlanta Falcons' Undrafted Free Agents Makes the 53-Man Roster

Scott CarasikJun 7, 2018

Every year, the Falcons bring in anywhere from 15 to 25 undrafted free agents to compete for roster spots, and this year is no different.

The Falcons have brought free agents to compete all over the roster with the depth of the free agents coming in to compete for roster spots at linebacker, tight end and wide receiver.

QB Dominique Davis

1 of 25

Dominique Davis had a minicamp that was poor in early May, but his overall talent level is higher than both Redman and Wilson. The issue there is that Davis just won't make it over Redman for a roster spot, and Wilson is still on the practice squad.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than 50 percent

Chance he just gets cut: greater than 75 percent

RB Robbie Frey

2 of 25

Robbie Frey is a back from Connecticut who also played at Kutztown State. He had a solid career at both places but will fight an uphill battle to even earn a roster spot while he competes with more established backs in Dimitri Nance, Antone Smith and Jason Snelling.

FB Lee Meisner

3 of 25

The former linebacker will compete with draft pick Bradie Ewing and veteran Mike Cox for the starting fullback spot. Unfortunately for him, he will likely end up as third fiddle to these two and will find himself on the outside looking in. Fullback isn't a position that normally ends up on the practice squad either.

WR Cody Pearcy

4 of 25

Cody Pearcy was a dark horse of mine to be drafted because of his all-around speed and his heart when he plays.

His receiving ability and returning abilities are extremely raw, but he has one of the top support groups for a young WR in All-Pro Roddy White, top position coach Terrie Robiskie and a scheme that features multiple WRs.

It wouldn't shock anyone close to him to see Pearcy end up as a Wes Welker-type long term. However, to make the 2012 roster, Pearcy will have to end up as a special teams ace much like Eric Weems early on in his career.

Chance he just gets cut: less than 10 percent

WR James Rodgers

5 of 25

James Rodgers played an all-around role for the Oregon State Beavers in his five years there. While he's a top-notch return specialist, he also has the ability to compete as a running back and a wide receiver on the roster.

Because he isn't just limited to a wide receiver role, he will be able to provide more roster versatility than someone like Antone Smith or Dimitri Nance who are purely RBs and special teams players, and if Koetter and Smith decide on an extra WR/RB hybrid instead of just a pure RB or WR, Rodgers will take that spot.

Chance he makes the final 53-man roster: greater than 50 percent

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 90 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 10 percent

WR Kenny Stafford

6 of 25

Stafford is the nephew of Cris Carter, but unlike his famous uncle, he will not be starting for an NFL team any time soon. Stafford has great natural abilities but doesn't have it all put together and will be competing just to get playing time in the preseason.

Chance he makes the final 53-man roster: less than 20 percent

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than 35 percent

Chance he just gets cut: greater than 65 percent

WR Marcus Jackson

7 of 25

Marcus Jackson is one of the few guys out of a small school like Lamar who even got considered for an NFL roster. However, Jackson just isn't the guy who will end up on the 53-man roster unless he just breaks out or works his way up like Kevin Cone did.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than 50 percent

WR Michael Calvin

8 of 25

What California wide receiver ran a 4.3 40-yard dash and is 6'2", 210 pounds but could still never crack the starting lineup? If you answered Michael Calvin, you would be correct.

He's one of those guys that looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane, and his abilities have been overshadowed by better wide receivers since he stepped foot on campus in Berkeley.

He isn't someone who's going to come in and start right away and likely won't even get a roster spot unless he can improve his route running and hands extremely quickly.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 50 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 50 percent

TE Adam Nissley

9 of 25

Nissley is arguably one of the better blocking tight ends from the college ranks in 2011. However, in order to get a roster spot, he will have to show better receiving ability than the 21 catches for 235 yards he got in his senior year at Central Florida.

He should be a solid contender for a practice squad role at least because his blocking is worth having on the roster.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 50 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 50 percent

TE Aron White

10 of 25

As much as the Georgia fans who love the Falcons want to see one of their own make it on the roster, White just isn't that guy.

He couldn't beat out Orson Charles for the starting spot and wasn't on the field enough as a senior to make a true impact unless they were in the red zone and needed someone to line up at WR for a fade.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than 25 percent

Chance he just gets cut: greater than 75 percent

TE Lamark Brown

11 of 25

Lamark Brown is a larger wide receiver who the Falcons will be using at tight end/h-back in the new offense with Dirk Koetter. His best role is likely as a possession wide receiver though and he won't be more than camp fodder for the Falcons in 2012.

He doesn't block well enough to earn a roster spot at tight end and doesn't have the size to be worth a project as an Aaron Hernandez type H-back.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than 10 percent

Chance he just gets cut: greater than 90 percent

OT Bryce Harris

12 of 25

Bryce Harris is a 6'6", 300-pound left tackle who was under Pat Hill at Fresno State and could legitimately compete for a reserve role at both tackle spots.

He's very reminiscent of a young Will Svitek in how he plays and carries himself. However, there's a lot of depth at tackle, and he more than likely will just be on the practice squad in 2012.

Chance he makes the final 53-man roster: less than 25 percent

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 75 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 25 percent

OG Phillipkeith Manley

13 of 25

Phillipkeith Manley is a man as big as his name would suggest. He's a monster, and while in any other year he would be able to compete for depth, he's nothing more than a possible practice squad member for the 2012 Atlanta Falcons.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than 25 percent

C Tyler Horn

14 of 25

While he doesn't stand much of a chance to make the starting lineup or even 53-man roster, that isn't an indictment on Horn's talent but more about the depth at center.

The Falcons have McClure and Hawley competing for the starting role with Konz able to fill in during an emergency.

DT Micanor Regis

15 of 25

Regis is one of the bigger, stronger defensive tackles the Falcons have brought in over the past three to four years. His main issue is the depth at defensive tackle is going to be an uphill battle. Having to compete with Walker, Robertson and Jerry just for a roster spot is going to be a good proving ground for him.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 50 percent

DE Louis Nzegwu

16 of 25

For such a physical specimen, it's hard to believe that Nzegwu had just 4.5 sacks in the 2011 season. He is supremely talented, but his long-term ability as a pass-rusher is exponential. He will have to sit on the practice squad to reach it and likely won't make the 530man roster.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 50 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 50 percent

LB Max Gruder

17 of 25

Max Gruder is a long-time starter for the University of Pittsburgh and will be competing for the reserve role at strong-side linebacker with Spencer Adkins. While Gruder didn't get drafted, he has all the ability to at least make the roster on the practice squad.

Chance he makes the final 53-man roster: less than 50 percent

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 75 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 25 percent

LB Pat Schiller

18 of 25

Pat Schiller will be part of the competition for a reserve role at either outside linebacker spot. He has the ability to win the roster spot over guys like Matt Hansen and Max Gruder and would be the guy who's projected to win the roster spot in 2012.

Chance he makes the final 53-man roster: greater than 60 percent

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 75 percent

LB Jerrell Harris

19 of 25

This is one of the better crops of free-agent linebackers Atlanta has signed in a while. Harris was someone who was being looked at even in the late seventh-round by some teams, and his ability in both the 3-4 and the 4-3 will only help the Falcons evaluate his talent. However, he likely doesn't make it past training camp.

Chance he just gets cut: greater than 50 percent

LB Rico Council

20 of 25

Rico Council was the starting middle linebacker for Tennessee State and will provide depth behind Tatupu and Dent in camp. He likely will not make the 53-man roster this year but could eventually end up in a situation similar to Matt Hansen's.

He's worth keeping and teaching and eventually having as a thumping backup.

CB Marty Markett

21 of 25

Marty Markett is one of the best athletes the Falcons signed this offseason. He should be able to compete with Darren Walls and Peyton Thompson for a roster spot as the final corner. He will be able to contribute on special teams, but it's very unlikely he makes the roster this year.

It wouldn't shock however to see him as a member of the practice squad and get moved to the 53-man roster in 2013 once Owens' contract expires.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 50 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 50 percent

CB Peyton Thompson

22 of 25

Peyton Thompson is someone who can compete as a special teamer and possible depth at both safety and cornerback but will likely not make the roster or practice squad. Thompson will compete with Walls, Schillinger and Faulcon for a spot that will mainly revolve around special teams.

S Chad Faulcon

23 of 25

Just think about how cool it will be to own a Faulcon jersey should he make the final 53-man roster. He will have to compete with Schillinger for a roster spot as the fourth safety and special teams ace.

He likely won't be able to beat him out, yet he should be able to make at least the practice squad in 2012.

Chance he makes the final 53-man roster: less than 50 percent

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: greater than 50 percent

Chance he just gets cut: less than 50 percent

P Dawson Zimmerman

24 of 25

Zimmerman will have to compete for the starting spot at punter and kickoff specialist to even have a shot at making the roster. The issue with this is that Matt Bosher is firmly entrenched into both roles and looks like he has All-Pro potential at both roles.

Zimmerman likely will not be making the 53-man roster this year and should be on the practice squad if they want a versatile kicker to train the special teams in field position. The only issue with that is very few teams even keep a punter on their practice squad.

Chance he makes the practice squad if he missed the 53-man: less than five percent

Chance he just gets cut: greater than 95 percent

LS Josh Harris

25 of 25

Josh Harris has the insurmountable task of beating out long-time pro snapper Joe Zelenka. Zelenka has great chemistry with Bosher and Bryant and will likely not be cut until he wants to retire.

Harris will likely not beat Zelenka out nor would the team keep a long snapper on the practice squad.
