Washington Redskins: Breaking Down Skins' New Alternate Uniforms
One of the most iconic uniforms in NFL history is going to have a throwback look in 2012.
It won’t be the main jersey the Washington Redskins sport, but the alternative jerseys are going to be worn for two games in Robert Griffin III’s inaugural season in Washington, per Zac Boyer o Fredericksburg.com.
The new look was presented at Redskins Park’s practice bubble on Thursday night. The franchise is entering its 80th season, and what better way to celebrate than introducing new threads?

NFL coach calls CFB transfer players 'clowns'
Linebackers Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan were the two players “modeling” the new uniforms, and it sounds like they are fully on board.
Orakpo certainly gives them his seal of approval (via Fredericksburg.com): "Yeah, it’s a great look, a great feel. They’re gonna look good out there. We’ll get all 53 men wearing them and represent it."
So how did Nike do?
Grades
Jersey: B+
The cool part about this uniform is that it’s an ode to the look of the franchise when they moved from Boston way back in the mid-1930s.
The classic burgundy color is still prevalent, and you have to love the classic logo on the side of the shoulder pad. That’s the iconic Redskins symbol and I’m glad Nike didn’t mess with it. There was no reason to try and modernize it.
Pants: A
The pants feature a more prominent metallic sort of gold. The typical pants are much more of a bright yellow.
I like the darker color and it makes the uniform. Nobody likes bright yellow.
Helmets: C
The leatherish pattern of the helmet is a bit odd, but obviously it’s like that to remind fans of the deep-rooted history of the franchise.
Without the Redskin logo, it looks far too much like the helmet of the Florida State Seminoles for my taste.
Not a huge fan.
Overall: B
Credit Nike for not trying to completely re-do the look, but I think they look a bit too much like the Seminoles for me. The gold is certainly shiny, and I like it much better than the typical yellow that drapes their threads.
