NBA Playoffs 2012: Updated Odds for Teams to Win Finals

Tim KeeneyJun 2, 2018

The 2012 NBA playoffs are only a few weeks old, but they've already given us quite a few curveballs and, as a result, Finals odds have drastically changed.

Just ask the Chicago Bulls, a team that came into the playoffs as one of the favorites to win the title but are now just struggling to stay alive after Derrick Rose's season-ending injury.

Or maybe the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizz were a popular upset pick, but Chris Paul is close to putting an end to that.

Injuries, star players, and sheer impressive team performances have changed the odds, so let's take a look at where the top teams now stand.

Note: These odds are completely made up by me

San Antonio Spurs (4/1)

If the Spurs weren't the favorite to win the Finals, they certainly are after that insanely impressive first round against the Utah Jazz.

Not only is Tony Parker playing easily the best basketball of his career right now, but the Spurs go about 11 deep. They are a well-oiled machine on offense and anyone can go for double-figures on any given night.

That makes them extremely dangerous.

They aren't the same defensive team as Greg Popovich's former clubs, but this looks like a team that can consistently outscore anyone.

Miami Heat (9/2)

The Spurs may be the favorite because of their ridiculous depth, but Miami has the necessary stars for a deep run.

When he wants to be, LeBron James is more unstoppable than anyone else in the NBA, and having Dwyane Wade as the "second option" isn't too shabby, either.

The Heat's bench scares me, as does their offense when they aren't able to get out on the fastbreak, but it's impossible to bet against LeBron and Wade, no matter how much you think James "chokes" in clutch time.

Oklahoma City Thunder (7/1)

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden combine to make the most exciting threesome in the NBA right now.

Add in defensive stalwarts Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins, and that's an incredibly impressive core.

The major concern with this team, however, is that they are too young, but I'm guessing the sweep of the Dallas Mavericks put to rest many of those concerns.

Also, the Thunder will likely get a tough second-round matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, who have lots of size and gave OKC some problems during the regular season.

Other Odds

Los Angeles Lakers (10/1)

Boston Celtics (11/1)

Indiana Pacers (15/1)

Los Angeles Clippers (20/1)

Philadelphia 76ers (30/1)

Memphis Grizzlies (40/1)

Chicago Bulls (60/1)

Atlanta Hawks (100/1)

Denver Nuggets (100/1)
