College Football: 2013 Weekly Recruiting Roundup April 20-26
It is Thursday, and that means we'll be looking around the nation at the major players in college football recruiting.
After last week's blowout run on commitments, this week's numbers cool down a bit. However, there is some action in the ACC for a team that did not even play its spring game.
The Hokies, who were forced to cancel their spring game due to weather, picked up six commitments over the weekend to set the pace for all teams. This was a big weekend for the Hokies, as defensive back Charles Clark headlines the group.
Also included in the mix for VPI are quarterbacks Bucky Hodges and Carlos Parker, linemen Parker Osterloh and Braxton Pfaff plus linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka.
Staying in the ACC, Florida State was able to get a big-time commitment from E.J. Levenberry Jr. Levenberry is a skilled 4-star linebacker from Woodbridge, Virginia.
With Jeff Luc's recent decision to transfer, the Seminoles are facing a challenge in building linebacker depth for the future.
Switching gears to the SEC, it was a slow weekend for the recruiting behemoth. No big news out of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU or Auburn in this week's cycle.
However, Arkansas and Tennessee both snared a commitment this weekend.
The Razorbacks' 2013 class became an army of one, as Kaleb Blanchard, a running back from Denham Springs, La., pledged to the Hogs. For Derek Dooley and the Volunteers, some defensive help is on the way in Dominic Zanca, who committed to Tennessee.
In the Big Ten, Urban Meyer adds two to his class, as he chases down Brady Hoke for the conference's recruiting title in 2013. Lewis Neal, a defensive end from North Carolina, decided to commit to the Buckeyes. Also on defense, standout defensive end Joey Bosa, out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., decided Urban's team is the squad for his future.
To wrap things up, we head to Lincoln, Neb. The Cornhuskers got their fifth commitment for the 2013 class when linebacker Courtney Love pledged to Bo Pelini and his staff.
As always, we'll keep you updated each week with the recruiting news from around the nation.
Oregon, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Texas A&M are some of the big boys with spring games this weekend. We'll take a look at those schools next week to see how they fared in the big recruiting show that is the spring game.
