Frenz of the Family: Must-Reads Around the AFC East, April 20 Edition

Erik FrenzApr 20, 2012

It's Friday, and for the big day, we felt it necessary to bring you a bigger-than-usual version of the AFC East links.

But we're not padding our stats with cheap tricks; this is all quality work by some of the best writers that cover the AFC East.

Cameron Wake's absence from team workouts has been the cause of much concern for Dolphins fans, but fear not: Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post writes that Wake's mini-holdout has ended. From the sound of things according to Wake's agent Paul Sheehy, it looks like the two sides should reach an agreement on a new deal in the near future.

B/R Dolphins featured columnist Alex Miglio has a very detailed primer of the wide receiver position as it pertains to the Dolphins, with an in-depth look at one of the deepest positions in the draft. The Dolphins should be able to walk away with some talent at receiver without having to blow a top draft pick on the position.

Michael Lombardi of NFL Network is more familiar with Bill Belichick's draft strategy than any pundit on television, so when he talked to Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com, I listened. Lombardi says the Patriots have to address their team speed on defense, and a lot more in this video.

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston was in attendance at a press conference with Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, who informed that the majority of the pre-draft prep work is done. Caserio also pointed out that underclassmen and players in the defensive front seven highlight this year's class.

Mark Sanchez has struggled since two of his favorite receivers left as free agents after the 2010 season. Would the Jets be wise to bring back wide receiver Braylon Edwards? B/R featured columnist Jesse Reed gives his thoughts, and points out the deep draft class at wide receiver as a reason why they might be better off looking to the draft.

Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog has a solid write-up of the big news to come out of Mike Tannenbaum's news conference with media on Thursday, and points out that the words "best player available" made their way out of the mouth of Tanny and onto the pads of media members more than once on the day.

Also, Tannenbaum was mum on Darrelle Revis' contract, which could be a problem according to Dan Hanzus of NFL.com. Rich Cimini of ESPN New York has referred to the contract as a "band-aid" quick fix in the past.

The B/R Bills featured columnists were on fire yesterday.

Among those needs? Cornerback. Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin are two of the Bills most recognizable names at cornerback, but B/R Bills FC Robert Quinn asks: could the two be on the hot seat? There should be opportunities to improve at the position in the draft. Also, those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it, which is why it's wise for Quinn to also bring up five of the biggest draft busts in Bills history.

The Bills gave their pre-draft press conference on Thursday afternoon and B/R Bills featured columnist Josh Cembellin has a Cliff's Notes version of the big news. Cembellin gives a good deal of insight on the team's biggest needs and how they may or may not be addressed through the draft.

Around The NFL

Greg Cosell of NFL Films is another one of those he-talks-the-world-listens pundits, so go check out the Shutdown Corner Podcast with Cosell and Doug Farrar of Yahoo! Sports. They talk about the draft, specifically about the plethora of defensive ends, outside linebackers and defensive tackles that will be available.
