The Doctor's Weekly WWE SmackDown Recap: 123 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated
WWE had a Blast from the Past with tonight's SmackDown as most of the legends who either work for WWE, or are on good terms with them, came out to join in on the fun.
The show did not feature any matches which stood out as amazing, but the night was more of an excuse to show off some funny segments and feature some Hall of Famers.
I would not say the show was anything special, but it was a theme show which did not go down as a disaster, and that is always a good thing.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
I truly appreciate my loyal readers but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list.
The entries are made up of equal parts humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials too just because I get bored during them.
I have two games each week as well. The first game is trying to correctly predict the length of the next Divas match to the second. The other game is coming up with new and humorous nicknames for David Otunga revolving around a specific part of his character or attire from that week.
This game has produced such wonderful nicknames as the Macchiato Mauler, The Sweater-vest Savior, The Bow-tie Brawler, The Caffeinated Crippler and my personal favorite, the Folger's Soldier.
I have now started doing nicknames for different superstars each week, so this week the person in question is Mae Young since she made an appearance during the Blast from the Past show.
One last thing before I get to the show, I am looking to make some improvements to the recap list format. I like it, but I think it could be better, so I am going to post a few polls with some ideas. If you could please take a moment and vote for the ideas you like best, it would be very much appreciated.
I will also read any comments posted, so if you have any additional feedback which could help me to improve this weekly column, please share your suggestions.
I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 149 things we learned, loved and hated from the show.
1. Blast from the Past SmackDown opens with a special video showcasing who will be here from the old days of WWE.
2. I am excited to see Dusty Rhodes the most. He is always entertaining.
3. A recap of Daniel Bryan dumping AJ is shown.
4. Awesome! Bryan will be in Piper's Pit tonight. This should be good.
5. Mean Gene Okerlund is out in the ring.
6. He brings out Sheamus, who talks about the Champions code.
7. I can hear a faint Daniel Bryan chant in the background.
8. Sheamus says he has no excuse for attacking the ref last week and he apologizes.
9. Big Johnny Laurinaitis comes out to be the proverbial wet blanket.
10. What the Hell? JL says Sheamus needs to apologize, which is exactly what he has been doing this whole time.
11. Sheamus apologizes again to the ref and JL wants him to apologize to all the referees in WWE, which he already has.
12. Sheamus does it. Is this going somewhere or is John Laurinaitis just losing it?
13. JL makes Sheamus apologize to the whole world, which he has already.
14. JL says all those apologies aren't good enough and he is on permanent probation and he is fired if he touches another ref.
15. He also gets fined $500,000.
16. Huh? Mean Gene Okerlund is going to wrestle?
17. Has he ever wrestled a match in his entire career?
18. Randy Orton is shown backstage and his father, Cowboy Bob Orton, comes in to give him a pep talk.
19. Good to see the Cowboy is doing well. He was a solid wrestler who was lucky enough to be involved in the main event of the first WrestleMania with his famous arm cast.
20. Orton is out after the break to face Mark Henry.
21. Orton tries to get the upper hand early on, but Henry gives him one headbutt to put him down.
22. Cowboy Bob is shown watching his son backstage. Why didn't he just come to the ring with him?
23. Henry hits a big running splash for a near fall.
24. I think that's how he beat Kane for the ECW Championship a few years ago.
25. Henry misses a second splash attempt and Orton starts to come back.
26. Both men almost hit their finishers and Orton ends up outside the ring.
27. Orton is alone in the ring and Kane's pyro goes off, shocking everyone.
28. Kane is on the titan tron talking about how he and Orton are both violent people.
29. Kane kneels down and we see that Randy's dad is down at the hands of Kane.
30. Orton bails and runs to the back. I guess the match is over. Who wins? Henry was easily able to be counted out while Kane was talking, but Orton also took off before the bell.
31. Randy finds his father, but he gets attacked from behind and Kane stands over both Ortons.
32. This was actually a good segment. Their feud should be based around the violence these two like to inflict and not who is the better wrestler. This could turn into a great match at Extreme Rules.
33. By the way, just got my tickets to Extreme Rules. I will be providing some on-site reports while there as well as taking as many pictures as I can to share with everyone. If anyone else is going, give me a Woo Woo Woo!
34. Ryback must be out next since a group of WWE legends is shown watching a monitor in back.
35. Oh, and the jobber wants to speak. Yup, Ryback is coming.
36. This jobber should be called Dolph Ziggler Lite.
37. Ryback is out and Tony Atlas is betting Ted DiBiase that Ryback will win. That's a safe bet, Tony.
38. Damn! That clothesline was sick.
39. Ryback hits his finisher for a very quick win. I guess he is getting the Brodus Clay push. Lots of quick matches with two moves to start his push.
40. That was a JBL-level clothesline.
41. Heath Slater and Tyson Kidd are talking backstage and Slater wants to team for the night.
42. Oh man! Jimmy Hart is in the house. This is great.
43. Fun fact: Jerry Lawler was the one who convinced Jimmy Hart to get into the wrestling business and become a manager. Hart used to be a singer, even having a Top 5 hit with The Gentrys with "Keep on Dancing" and he switched careers on the advice of the King and he is probably much better off for it.
44. Mick Foley is out after the commercial to be on commentary.
45. Tyson Kidd does not look pleased to be teaming with Heath Slater with Jimmy Hart in their corner.
46. Nice, The Usos are out as their opponents.
47. Jimmy Hart is doing his old megaphone shtick during this match. Not sure if I have fond memories of this, as it seems very annoying.
48. Slater tags in and takes control after Kidd and one of the Usos exchange pin attempts.
49. I think Rikishi should have been brought in tonight to be in the Usos' corner. He was just at the Hall of Fame, so you know WWE knows how to contact him.
50. Mick Foley goes after Jimmy Hart with Mr. Socko, and The Usos take advantage of the distraction and win the match with a huge Superfly Splash.
51. YES! Piper's Pit is up next with Daniel Bryan.
52. It's great to see the man so tough that even cancer backed down from a fight with him.
53. Piper criticizes Bryan blaming AJ for losing the World Title at WrestleMania.
54. Why are all of Bryan's shirts always red? There was a gray one once, but the design was red.
56. Now an "18 seconds" chant breaks out. Are they on his side or not?
57. Someone get Piper a coconut.
58. Bryan declares that he would like to make Sheamus tap out and pin him, so at Extreme Rules, they will be having a 2 out of 3 falls match.
59. Piper pulls a Springer and brings out Bryan's ex-girlfriend, AJ.
60. AJ looks star-struck to be in Piper's Pit, and she should be.
61. AJ says Bryan is a good person and Piper tells her to leave her PC answers at the door.
62. She takes the blame for costing Bryan the title at WrestleMania.
63. BOOOOO!!!
64. I just noticed Piper is wearing wrist tape under his jacket. Hopefully, he will be wrestling Bryan in a few minutes.
65. Piper says AJ doesn't need to make anything up to Bryan and Bryan gets pissed.
66. Bryan says if AJ loves him, then she will leave the ring and Piper says she doesn't have to.
67. She leaves and Bryan tries to leave before Piper stops him.
68. Piper says he has three daughters, so he is taking exception to Bryan telling AJ to shut up.
69. Bryan smacks Piper and then bails to the outside before the Rowdy One can get his hands on him.
70. I was hoping Piper would get to fight him.
71. A commercial plays for an Edge DVD. Didn't he just have one a couple years ago?
72. I guess this counts as a Divas match since The Bellas are teaming with Drew McIntyre to face Khali, Alicia Fox and Natalya Neidhart. Let's time it.
73. So I guess Nattie's face turn is official. At least the farting has stopped.
74. Drew quickly tags out and screams "I am better than this" before walking off.
75. He said something about "If you want to see me later, that's fine." I guess the playboy gimmick has officially begun.
76. Alicia Fox hits a really nice suplex-pin to win the match in 56 seconds. Paul Shriner was closest with his prediction of 48 seconds. Leave your predictions for any Divas match that may on Raw in the comments section.
76.5 I am working on a running total for all the Divas matches in 2012 so far between Raw and SmackDown. My guess is the total for the year will be less than the Undertaker vs. Triple H Hell in a Cell match was. I should have the numbers ready by Raw's recap.
77. The original horny old lady, Mae Young, is out after the match and she lays a kiss on Khali.
78. Hahahahah, Booker says "An old chicken makes good soup." Classic Booker.
79. That line seriously made me lose it. I should have seen it coming, but Booker caught me off guard.
80. Let's make tonight's nickname game about Mae Young. I am going with "The Mae-chine gun" Leave your Mae Young nicknames below.
81. Another Damien Sandow promo appears. This guy could be huge if used right.
82. Sheamus and Mean Gene are backstage talking about their match.
83. Mean Gene is so overly hammy sometimes. Its part of what made him a great announcer and interviewer.
84. Hacksaw Jim Duggan is out to face Hunico next.
85. Poor Hunico. They have no idea what to do with this guy.
86. Duggan gives Hunico a few lefts and rights to knock him out of the ring.
87. Sgt. Slaughter's music hits and he comes down to keep Camacho at bay.
88. I don't think the shape of Sarge's body has changed throughout his entire career.
89. USA USA USA!!!
90. Sarge throws a Cobra Clutch on Hunico to end the match. He and Duggan celebrate on the way out of the ring,
91. Cody Rhodes is in the ring after the break and he is whining about losing to Big Show.
92. His Dad's music hits and Dusty comes out dancing.
93. Dusty looks like he has dropped a few pounds recently. Good for him.
94. Cody says this does not concern Dusty, but Dusty disagrees.
95. Dusty says his son came in with the most potential, but he had to poke the bear.
96. Big Show is the bear, by the way.
97. Cody says his Dad is embarrassing him and they should talk about this in the back, but Big Show comes out and Cody gets back in the ring.
98. Big Show says tonight he is going to show the real Cody Rhodes.
99. Ha! He shows some of Cody's old "Dashing" segments. Ridiculous.
100. Big Show's impression of Dusty is pretty bad.
101. Cody is not interested in talking to his Dad and he leaves.
102. Dusty dances in the ring to end the segment with Cody pouting as he walks up the ramp.
103. A lot of dancing tonight and no Brodus Clay. He must be pissed he is missing all this funk.
104. Daniel Bryan and Alberto Del Rio are out to face Sheamus and Mean Gene Okerlund.
105. I guess we will get to see how mean Mean Gene can be.
106. Del Rio's new shirt is interesting. Is it supposed to be a Peso?
107. The hits just keep on coming. Howard Finkel is out to introduce Mean Gene and Sheamus.
108. Mean Gene's music is very fitting.
109. Michael Cole hopes The Fink doesn't cry. It was just the one time, Cole.
110. Del Rio tries to beat Sheamus in a striking contest but the big man is too much for him until Bryan causes a distraction.
111. Bryan tags in and starts giving Sheamus kick after kick.
112. You know that little rope the partner outside the ring is supposed to be holding at all times? Why do some people just ignore the fact that it's there and other guys hold it all the time?
113. Sheamus gets kicked by Del Rio outside the ring in a very nice exchange.
114. Mean Gene gets pulled in the ring and Bryan and Del Rio corner him.
115. Why is the ref not counting the illegal man in the ring?
116. All the legends come out to defend Mean Gene from the mean old heels.
117. Sheamus hits the Brogue Kick on Bryan to get the win for his team.
118. Ricardo Rodriguez gets pummeled by everyone in the ring.
119. This reminds me of the WWE's first ECW PPV where everyone hit Eric Bischoff with their finisher to end the night on a very happy note.
120. Michael Cole gets in the ring to thank everyone for a wonderful time tonight.
121. Pat Patterson lays out Cole with a punch and Sheamus' music hits.
122. I guess tonight was a fun one-time thing.
123. I enjoyed seeing Piper, Dusty and Cowboy Bob the best, but seeing all the legends is always nice too.
Thanks for reading and feel free to share your thoughts and additions to the list below. Also, please take a moment and make your prediction for the length of the next Divas match as well as your nickname for Mae Young.
