WWE Has Already Ruined Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins Main Event at SummerSlam
The build to the WWE SummerSlam 2026 main event between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship should be one of the easiest to book because of their extensive history.
Unfortunately for the WWE Universe, Triple H and WWE Creative have found a way to screw it up.
From their time in The Shield to their numerous singles matches against each other, the rivalry between Reigns and Rollins dates back over a decade and is one of the company's most memorable long-term duels.

Instead of feeling like the culmination of years of history between the two veterans, the feud has become repetitive before the bout has even happened. As usual, WWE leaned too heavily on old talking points and repetitive promos, making a dream match feel overly familiar.
The major problem is that the latest iteration of Rollins vs. Reigns relies almost entirely on history, offering fans nothing new. The challenger has again become obsessed with the champion, but the WWE Universe has heard versions of this promo for years.
Rather than evolving as a babyface, Rollins is airing old grievances and adding nothing new, as seen by the Chicago crowd hijacking his promo with CM Punk chants because it added nothing to a story we've already seen.
On Monday's episode of Raw, the contract signing showed what the feud should have been, with Reigns showcasing his confidence and Rollins providing real emotion once his legacy was challenged.
With the two showing the chemistry that made fans embrace the feud in the past, the segment proved WWE had a better story at its disposal all along.
Instead, WWE Creative continues focusing on Rollins' dominance over Reigns, which makes the outcome of their SummerSlam match feel predictable. Fans should be waiting with bated breath on who will win, but victory for The Tribal Chief is almost guaranteed now.
Mentioning The Shield, the heel turn and WrestleMania 31 is perfectly acceptable when building a storyline between these former friends turned bitter rivals, but it shouldn't be the focal point. WWE should be spinning it forward to give the fans something to latch onto emotionally.
Right now, the matchup feels like a foregone conclusion instead of an important step in their journey together.
Two weeks ago, Rollins' promo on Raw started this main event feud off on the wrong foot, but Monday's closing segment finally injected life into the rivalry and built a modicum of excitement for SummerSlam.
Unfortunately, the WWE Universe won't have enough time to get emotionally invested in this storyline. Triple H and his team have spent too much time recycling familiar promos instead of deepening one of wrestling's greatest rivalries.
Rollins and Reigns will almost certainly have a great match at SummerSlam, but it won't feel as special as it should due to the lack of creativity, a persistent problem plaguing WWE right now.
