What They're Saying
Mike Wells covers the Pacers for the Indianapolis Star, and he quoted forward Danny Granger on his thoughts about the difficult schedule that lies ahead:
"How we do in these games will determine how we do as a team. We've been winning, but it's been against teams not in the playoffs. It changes in Chicago."
After facing the Bulls, the Pacers then take on the Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Portland Trailblazers, Philadelphia 76ers, the New York Knicks twice and then the Los Angeles Clippers.
That's an incredibly tough stretch of games, so starting off with a victory in Chicago is going to be crucial.
Even just playing well against the Bulls will be important. The Pacers have to show that they can contend with the elites of the NBA, especially if they intend on making a deep run in the postseason this year.
K.C. Johnson covers the Bulls for the Chicago Tribune, and he tweeted a quote from Bulls center Joakim Noah about how the Pacers celebrated after beating Chicago in January.
"Noah on Pacers game: "Roy Hibbert cannot out-celebrate me. So if they want to see some celebration, when we win, I can show them some."
— K.C Johnson (@KCJHoop) March 5, 2012"
The Bulls weren't too pleased with how the Pacers reacted after their five-point win.
It was the first home loss for Chicago this season, and the Bulls are hoping the Pacers don't steal victory on their home court once again.
Chicago will be extremely motivated to make sure the Pacers aren't celebrating in a big way come Monday night.
Indiana Player to Watch
Granger dropped 22 points and grabbed nine boards the last time they played.
He did have five turnovers in the game, so keep an eye on him to see if he protects the ball better this time around.
As the Pacers' leading scorer, Granger has to put the team on his back and take care of business against Chicago if Indiana is going to win at the United Center once again.
Chicago Player to Watch
Derrick Rose is always the guy to watch for the Bulls. He leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 22 points and seven assists per game.
Coming off a season-high 35 points, it will be interesting to see if Rose is still shooting at a high percentage or if he'll be off the mark.
Since it's a division rival and a team that he felt disrespected by a couple months ago, look for Rose to shine bright.
Key Matchup
One of the key matchups for this game is Luol Deng vs. Granger. Whichever player gets the best of the other will likely see his team come out on top.
Deng didn't play the last time these two teams went at it because of a wrist injury. He's back and ready for this game, which could be a huge difference-maker for the Bulls.
Another matchup that's crucial for this game is the one between Noah and Roy Hibbert. The Pacers big man had the better game last time around, but given Noah's quote about celebration, look for him to be ready to go full force against Indiana on Monday night.
Prediction
This will be another great game between two strong Eastern Conference teams. Both will put up a strong fight, leading to a close game throughout.
In the end, though, I give the edge to the Bulls because they're playing at home, and they really want to stick it to the Pacers after the celebration they had over a month ago. Look for Rose and company to send a message to Indiana as the Bulls pull away late in the fourth to win.
