New York Knicks: 4 Players Who Need to Start Helping Jeremy Lin
Possibly the biggest sports story this year has been Jeremy Lin's performance, and it has only been six games.
"Super Lintendo," or the other thousand nicknames he has generated, has set an NBA record for most points scored in his first six games.
He outplayed Kobe Bryant and sank a game winning three against the Toronto Raptors, where it was practically a home game considering the amount of applause he received.
Madison Square Garden's stock has skyrocketed since Lin took the floor two weeks ago, and his No. 17 jersey is the most popular online sale this week.
However, basketball like most sports, is a team oriented game. That being said, I have devised a list of players who need to start helping out Jeremy Lin.
Tyson Chandler
1 of 4Jeremy Lin already leads the team in assists per game, averaging 4.5 on his young season. Stated as a true point guard, which the Knicks desperately needed, Lin will excel in the pick-and-roll game.
Here's where Tyson Chandler should be at his best. Chandler is averaging 11.9 points per game and grabbing 9.8 rebounds a game.
Averaging his career best in points, this number should only increase with Lin's play. Working with a true point guard is only going to benefit Chandler, and working with a true center is only going to benefit Lin.
If this duo can generate a solid pick-and-roll offense, expect the Knicks to climb up the Eastern Conference standings.
Amar'e Stoudemire
2 of 4Joining Lin for one game so far, after being out due to a death in the family, Stoudemire should see a glimpse of his days in Phoenix with Steve Nash.
The pick-and-roll worked wonders for Stoudemire before, and who's to say it won't work in New York.
Like I previously said with Chandler, Stoudemire will also benefit from have a true point guard distributing the ball to his 6'11" frame.
Known for his tremendous athleticism and explosion, Stoudemire creates nightmares for opposing teams' defenses.
Now imagine that with "Linsanity" passing him the ball. The Knicks pick-and-roll game is certainly going to increase with Stoudemire and Lin working as a one-two punch.
Carmelo Anthony
3 of 4The Knicks leading scorer is Carmelo Anthony, who is averaging 22.3 points on the season.
Although still on the bench due to a groin injury, Anthony needs to come back to the hardwood to benefit the Knicks.
Working with Lin, Anthony needs to realize he doesn't need to take all the shots. With a true point guard on the floor being able to distribute the ball, Anthony will be able to play his game.
Anthony took over 25 shots in six games this season. With Lin on the floor, the Knicks will be able to run a more steady offense and not rely only on their superstar to take all the shots.
As soon as Anthony gets back on the floor and realizes the benefits of working with a true point guard, his game, as well as the Knicks, will only excel.
Baron Davis
4 of 4Playing in six games in 10 days, Jeremy Lin might be putting up impressive numbers, but athletes need some rest.
Once Baron Davis gets back on the floor, the Knicks will be able to run a steady offense with two true point guards.
Last season with the atrocious Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers, Davis produced 13.1 points and distributed 6.7 assists per game.
Placing Davis beside Lin, the Knicks will finally have filled their point guard void that they have been missing for the past few seasons.
Generating a solid pick-and-roll game with their big men, and having the savvy Lin continue his greatness, the Knicks look to be a solid team heading into the All-Star break.
Once everyone is back to full strength and communicating on the floor, the Knicks will consist of a superior offensive threat, thanks to the discovery of Jeremy Lin.
