Why the Chicago Bulls Should Pursue Dwight Howard.
The ongoing saga for the Orlando Magic will be whether or not Dwight Howard signs a contract extension or simply follows a similar trend as LeBron James, Chris Paul or Carmelo Anthony.
The 6'11'', 265-pound center is not pleased by his team's effort this season. Undoubtedly, people will question general manager Otis Smith's decisions of the acquisitions that brought the likes of Gilbert Arenas, Glen Davis and Hedo Turkoglu in the past few seasons.
However, Howard's fate may soon end up eerily similar to LeBron James’ situation in Cleveland.
A superstar surrounded by castoffs and mediocre talent who wanted to take his talents to a team with a bright future and in a marketable city. Chicago can potentially be that choice. The Bulls have the assets and draft picks to pull off a trade, however earlier this season many skeptics believed it would be impossible for Dwight Howard to even contemplate such a decision.
Following an embarrassing 93-67 loss in New Orleans, Dwight Howard was asked about the possibility of joining Derrick Rose in Chicago and stated:
""If I could play with Derrick right now and God wanted that to happen, it will happen," Howard told the Chicago Tribune. "It has nothing to do with me not wanting to play with Derrick Rose. I love him. That's my brother."
"
When we think of Dwight Howard with his sheer dominance, defensive prowess and improved scoring ability, the thought of him paired with Rose is petrifying.
Derrick Rose is coming off a phenomenal MVP season in 2011. At the age of 23, Rose has not even reached his prime, and with Howard, this team could become a dynasty.
While Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver and Taj Gibson are effective, they are not the kind of players who can create their own shot.
With Dwight Howard as the man in the middle, Howard can alleviate the pressure off of Rose and open up the spacing on the floor.
The only team that many believe will stand in the way and pose a threat to the Bulls championship hopes is the Miami Heat of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh for the next eight to ten years. However, Just imagine the nucleus of Dwight Howard, Luol Deng, and Derrick Rose?
With one the best defensive coaches in the game today in Tom Thibodeau at the helm, this team would bring a new sense of excitement and championship aspirations since the glory days of Michael Jordan in the 1990s.
Dwight Howard's defense-first mentality would be best suited for Chicago’s defensive, blue collar system.
Charles Barkley pointed out that If Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose were to join forces, they could become the best center/point guard duo since Magic and Kareem of the 1980s... Who can argue that?
