LeBron James: Ranking The Chosen One's Top 10 Dunks of All Time
There's no doubt about it. LeBron James is one of the, if not the best, dunk artist in the game today.
Not only does he catch alley-oops like it's a walk in the park, he also throws down dunks with an incredible ferocity and power that some have defined by having "no regard for human life."
While we unfortunately might never see LeBron James compete in an NBA All-Star Dunk Contest, we can take a look back at the greatest dunks of his NBA career, and that's exactly what lies ahead in the next few slides.
LeBron is the definition of a high-flyer, and at 6'8'' 265 pounds, there aren't many players that can stop him, and believe me, you'll see quite a few guys in the next few slides who thought they could.
Ahead is a ranking of the top 10 dunks of LeBron's career, accompanied by videos of course. Enjoy.
Honorable Mention: The Dunk on Gerald Henderson That Never Actually Happened
1 of 15The list starts off with a dunk that actually never happened.
LeBron posterizes Gerald Henderson with a thunderous slam, but before the points get put on the scoreboard, the ball pops off Henderson's head and makes it way back onto the court.
Henderson is a ridiculously athletic guy, which makes this posterization all that more impressive.
Honorable Mention: LeBron Scares Tony Parker Away
2 of 15Tony Parker managed to stay off the wrong side of a LeBron James poster here by doing the right thing and backing away from trying to stop LeBron.
The best part of this dunk is the fear in Tony Parker's eyes, at the thought of trying to stop the freight train known as LeBron James.
Honorable Mention: LeBron Making Tyson Chandler Think Twice About Stopping Him
3 of 15At least Tyson Chandler made it look like he was going to try and stop LeBron, unlike Tony Parker on the last slide.
Chandler thought about trying to contest LeBron's dunk, but then decided to back out, which was probably the smartest move.
LeBron would have posterized him either way, at least this way he saved at least a little bit of dignity.
Honorable Mention: LeBron Patenting the Infamous Windmill-Reverse Dunk
4 of 15Alright, a windmill dunk is hard enough to begin with. Throw in a reverse on top of that, and you've got a dunk with a ridiculously high level of difficulty.
The athleticism of this dunk alone is absolutely insane. LeBron jumps from right around the dotted line, hangs in the air for about a minute and finishes with some serious force.
It's crazy how easy LeBron makes dunks like that one look. If only it were really that easy. What I want to see next out of LeBron is that same dunk over a person, maybe John Lucas of the Chicago Bulls.
Honorable Mention: LeBron Taking His Dunking Skills Back to His Hometown
5 of 15Dunking on two former teammates at once had to feel good for the Cleveland native.
You've got to give some credit to J.J. Hickson though for actually trying to stop LeBron, although he had to know it wasn't actually going to happen.
The degree of difficulty on this dunk isn't really that high, but the power that LeBron used to throw it down was still pretty impressive. I know they won't admit it, but the Cavaliers have to be wishing they had that power back.
10. LeBron Gives Ian Mahinmi His Two Seconds of Fame
6 of 15At least Mahinmi tried to stop LeBron, unlike some other players on the honorable mention list.
Mahinmi got his two seconds of fame by getting put on the wrong end of a nice LeBron James poster from the 2011 NBA Finals, which is something positive he can take away from this experience.
While LeBron's 2011 NBA Finals performance didn't exactly work out as well as he had hoped, this is at least one bright spot for him.
9. LeBron Making James Johnson Look Like a Nobody, Oh Wait He Already Is
7 of 15What was James Johnson thinking? He couldn't have realistically thought he was going to actually stop LeBron from humiliating him could he?
There was absolutely no way that James Johnson was going to block LeBron James, but he still tried, which you've got to give him some credit for.
At least James Johnson will be remembered for more than just being a below-average NBA player. He'll also be known as that guy that got posterized by LeBron James.
8. LeBron Dunking on Fellow Heat Dwyane Wade
8 of 15Travel back with me to a time where LeBron wasn't the most hated basketball player in the NBA. A time before the big three and the Miami Heat.
Dwyane Wade thought he could track down James and show him whose town Miami is, but LeBron had another idea.
Little did Miami fans know, LeBron would be doing that exact same thing in American Airlines Arena to opponents a few years later, only this time he'd be wearing a Miami Heat jersey.
This dunk would be higher on the list if LeBron hadn't done a super flip after he hit the ground. Shame on you LeBron, leave that kind of flopping for Kobe.
7. LeBron Making Bill Walker Look Like the Fool That He Is
9 of 15The athleticism of LeBron James on this play is through the roof.
Sure, just watching it the first time it looks like a typical LeBron dunk. But when you watch it a second time, notice just how high LeBron is, and how far out from the hoop he initially jumped.
What also makes this dunk so great is that he humiliated Bill Walker, which is always a positive in my book.
I know this dunk doesn't have a ridiculous amount of "wow" factor, but the height and elevation LeBron gets on this dunk is pretty insane.
6. LeBron Nearly Jumping over Tim "The Big Fundemental" Duncan
10 of 15Tim Duncan was a little bit too fundamental on this one. He probably could have got the charge call if he had actually flopped.
The most ridiculous part of this dunk isn't the fact that LeBron nearly cleared the 6'11'' center, it's that he took off from right around the dotted line from inside the paint.
This dunk is absolutely insane on a lot of levels, but most of all because again LeBron makes it look way too easy.
I bet Tim Duncan learns something from his buddy Tony Parker and just moves out of the way next time.
5. LeBron Posterizing Rasheed "Mr. Technical Foul" Wallace
11 of 15I'm pretty sure Rasheed Wallace hung up his jersey and sneakers after this play.
Wallace got absolutely owned by LeBron on this posterization. When it comes to getting posterized, this one is right up there with the best. Not only was it a sick dunk, it was also in the fourth quarter of a close Eastern Finals matchup, which makes it that much more impressive.
I'm pretty sure this was the moment when Rasheed Wallace thought to himself, "Yeah, I'm probably too old for this game."
4. LeBron with the Double Pump Around Josh Howard
12 of 15Taking off from the right side of the paint, double pumping under Josh Howard and throwing down a thunderous slam on nearly the other side of the rim is easy isn't it? Well at least LeBron makes it look easy.
Josh Howard made the mistake of thinking he could stop LeBron James. Dirk Nowitzki, on the other hand, did the right thing and pretended he was defending somebody else.
Unfortunately for LeBron, the Mavericks paid him back for that dunk in the 2011 NBA Finals.
3. LeBron Posterizing Channing Frye Like a Boss
13 of 15Here's what I learned from watching that dunk. It's going to take more than two huge basketball players to stop LeBron James running at full speed.
Channing Frye and Jared Dudley learned that lesson the hard way. Both members of the Phoenix Suns tried to stop "The Chosen One," but were horribly unsuccessful.
Hey, on the positive side, at least LeBron didn't jump straight over Dudley or Frye, like he did to John Lucas in the next dunk on this list.
2. LeBron Jumping over John Lucas Like It's Nothing
14 of 15LeBron's epic dunk over John Lucas almost made it to the number one spot, but it fell just short.
John Lucas stands at 5'11'', which by NBA standards is pretty short. But when you watch the dunk and realize that LeBron cleanly cleared him without really trying, you understand just how impressive jumping over a human being really is.
Not only did he jump over a decent-sized man, he also got the alley-oop with one hand and threw it down with quite a bit of force. If you're a hater of this dunk, you're not allowed to comment until you've caught an alley-oop while jumping over someone 5'11''.
1. LeBron James with No Regard for Human Life
15 of 15"With No Regard For Human Life"
I'm pretty sure there's not much more that needs to be said here. LeBron's dunk over Kevin Garnett in the playoffs was arguably one of the best dunks of all time.
The strength and power that LeBron threw the dunk down with was absolutely epic, especially because it was done right in the face of the loud-mouthed and often times dirty Kevin Garnett.
This emphatic dunk will go down as one of the, if not the best, dunk of his career, unless he starts hopping over seven-footers.
Thanks for checking the article out. If I left any dunks off the list that you think should have been on, please let me know.
