New York Giants: 6 Reasons They Will Avoid Dreaded Super Bowl Hangover

Jesse FeldJun 7, 2018

With the weight of a Super Bowl title on their shoulders, the Giants will look to avoid a Super Bowl hangover going into 2012.

Some teams' Super Bowl run is their peak, and then the team deteriorates the next year. This will not be the case for the New York Giants as they are destined for another solid season.

Because of leadership and consistency within the locker room, these Giants may even be able to make a run at next year's Super Bowl.

Consistency from the Defensive Line

1 of 6

The Giants' pass rush proved to be dangerous once again in this year's playoffs, compiling 11 sacks in the postseason. What makes the pass rush scary is their ability to get pressure on the quarterback while only rushing the four defensive linemen.

With draft choices like Jason Pierre-Paul and Mathias Kiwanuka, New York has shown how willing they are to take athletic defensive linemen to make their crew stronger and stronger.

This gives them flexibility on who rushes the quarterback on which down, and makes it hard to stop the renegade of pass-rushers.

Constant pressure on the quarterback will continue to keep the Giants in games and away from a letdown season.

Tom Coughlin

During the last few seasons, the New York media has loved to talk about how hot Tom Coughlin's seat is as Giants' head coach.

However much they might talk about the coach being fired, he continues to lead his team to victories. Coughlin should have plenty of motivation to keep proving the critics wrong going into the 2012 season.

Eli Manning

Some may say that the Manning family is blessed. Whether or not this is true, I can definitely tell you that they are hardworking.

Eli will continue to work on his game in order to stay in the category of the elite NFL quarterbacks. Manning's confidence should be higher than ever before, entering 2012 as the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

Other than Mario Manningham, all of his weapons are for sure going to be on the team next year. This means the chemistry and familiarity between them will only grow stronger as the season moves on.

Free Agency Won't Bite the Giants Too Hard

4 of 6

The 2012 Giants team will look a lot like the 2011 team that just won the Super Bowl. With team chemistry as important as it is, this looks like a solid trend for the G-Men.

There are, however, free agents that will not be back in a Giants uniform next season. The biggest name from that group is Mario Manningham, who made the most crucial play on the Giants' final drive of the game.

Much like David Tyree from the last Super Bowl win, Manningham will probably not be a Giant next season. While they would like to keep him, it is likely the market will offer him more than the Giants would want to spend on a No. 3 receiver.

NYC Won't Let Them Get Complacent

5 of 6

The city that never sleeps might rest easy during the offseason, but come next year they will be hungry for their Giants to win yet another Super Bowl.

The New York media is known for being brutal—that didn't change after the 2007 Super Bowl, and won't change because of this one. They will be ready to jump on any mistakes the team makes next season.

If Coughlin makes a questionable call, his job will be in question. If Eli throws a late-game interception, his newfound elite status will be questioned.

Everyone will be watching the Giants, so high expectations should result in a high level of play.

The Entire NFC East Will Be Under Pressure

6 of 6

After winning a division with a 9-7 record, the rest of the NFC East will have a lot of questions to answer in the 2012 season. The pressure on the Dallas Cowboys to win is an annual thing that owner Jerry Jones does his best to support.

After the year of the "Dream Team," the Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of weight on their shoulders to perform. Before last year it was Super Bowl or bust. After the obvious bust, the Eagles will be under scrutiny to be the perfect team they are expected to be.

As for the Redskins, well, they are obviously still a work in progress. With the pressure so high on the Giants' division rivals, it may take stress off of the defending champs.
