13 Cross-Sport Promos We're Dying to See

Nick HouserJun 5, 2018

Is that Tim Tebow at the Nuggets game? No, but it's one of the cross-sports promotions we'd love to see!

In an attempt to boost the team over the New Orleans Hornets, the Denver Nuggets turned to the "Tebowing" method.

Nuggets mascot Rocky, pictured above, bounded onto the court in a Tim Tebow jersey on January 9, hoping to provide the Nuggets with the same inspiration the Broncos quarterback gave his team this season.

Unfortunately for the Nuggets, it didn't work. Fortunately for us, it got our wheels turning.

What other cross-sport promotions have us pining?

More C.C. in Raiders Gear

1 of 13

New York Yankees ace pitcher C.C. Sabathia grew up in Vallejo, California. His baseball team may be on another coast, but his football team is just 30 minutes south of his hometown.

Sabathia has never hidden his love for the Raiders. We don't want him to; we want more of it.

It would be great to see the typically soft-spoken Sabathia in face paint and spiked shoulder pads.

While we're at it, we'd also like to see the Oakland A's happy-go-lucky mascot, Stomper, decked out in full "Black Hole" gear too. If Oakland has a hard time filling seats with A's fans, might as well pander to the Raiders fans.

More Alex Smith in a SF Giants Hat

2 of 13

At the end of the 2010 season, San Francisco 49ers fans were excited to see quarterback Alex Smith's contract expire. Then the 49ers re-signed him.

Fans remained cautious until the 49ers beat the Philadelphia Eagles, but it wasn't the victory on the field that officially won them over. It was the post game press conference.

Smith spurned his San Diego roots (at least for a few minutes) and threw on a San Francisco Giants hat.

He would repeat the action a few more times throughout the 2011 season. There's no better way of sharing your desire to be in San Francisco than supporting its other teams too.

More Kobe Supporting Barcelona

3 of 13

Growing up in Italy, Kobe Bryant fell in love with nearby Barcelona FC. It's only fitting that one of the greatest basketball players to play the game roots for one of the top tier football teams in the world.

Bryant even claims Barcelona has "inspired [him] and the way [he] plays."

It's one we've seen a few times already. But it never seems to get old.

An L.A. Swap

4 of 13

David Beckham has been spotted sitting court side in Lakers gear. Kobe clearly loves soccer.

But to fully complete the swap, we would need Kobe to ditch his Barcelona gear in favor of a Galaxy jersey.

The pair are reportedly good friends already. The public needs to see them swap jerseys. Or better, play one-on-one in either sport.

Neither team needs the press, but it'd sure be fun to watch.

The "King" of Miami

5 of 13

The Florida Marlins have officially moved and are now the Miami Marlins. New name, new jerseys, new stadium. Now they just need someone to throw out the first pitch.

Here's an idea: LeBron James.

He's mentioned multiple times he wants to play football. But we really want to see his fastball.

A Red-Winged Tiger

6 of 13

Prince Fielder just signed a nine-year, $214 million contract with the Detroit Tigers. But it's not the Tigers uniform we wish to see him in, it's in the Red Wings sweaters.

As the goalie.

It might even help his defense.

Lightning Fast with a Lead Foot

7 of 13

Usain Bolt is considered the fastest man alive. On foot at least.

But can he drive?

We'd sure enjoy finding out by putting the three-time Olympic gold medalist on a NASCAR track.

Who would win in a 100-meter dash: Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 car, or Bolt on foot?

A Tim Tebow Anything Promo

8 of 13

Why stop at a Nuggets game? Tim Tebow is the perfect candidate to throw out a pitch for the Colorado Rockies. Pair him up with Troy Tulowitzki.

Same initials. Same love for eye paint. Both faces of their respective franchises.

Tebow to Tulo.

Here's one more, albeit more outrageous, idea: Tebow hosts WWE.

He's already said no to Dancing With the Stars, which would have been a cross-sport promo in itself. From Tebow's standpoint, there's no quicker way to reach boys and men, ages 13-22. Would there be more shock factor in the world than turning Tebow heel in the WWE?

Yeah, that'll happen. When hell freezes over.

An Epic Battle of Lesser Proportions?

Imagine a commercial in which Tiger Woods is held up from his start time because of the pair in front of him.

The camera pans to the duo and it's none other than Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., both boxers donning slacks, striped polo shirts and PGA Tour hats.

The pair are arguing over stipulations of the game, who tees off first and how much money is involved.

On second thought, let's put Pacquiao in plaid pants.

Another Famous Lewis at the Olympics

10 of 13

The 2012 Summer Olympics begin July 27. They're also in London, a place in which the NFL has been hosting games for years now.

Ray Lewis is quite the human and athletic specimen. Who better to promote an event that gathers similar athletes? A win-win for the Olympics and the NFL in London.

We'd especially love to see Lewis as he "practices" (promotes) games like beach volleyball, archery, gymnastics and table tennis.

Celebrity Fishing

11 of 13

Fishing is the sport that needs the most help. Sure, it's popular as an activity, but it's not very entertaining to watch.

That is, unless we put a bunch of the toughest athletes in sports together in a boat. It can be an entire reality television show. Can calmer heads prevail? Or will they lose it and flip out?

The show needs guys like James Harrison, Dennis Rodman and Kenny Rogers.

Boston's New Big 3

12 of 13

It would be just plain silly, and fun, to see New England Patriots' Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski and Wes Welker in Boston Celtics jerseys.

It'd be loads better to get Gronkowski in Kevin Garnett's jersey, Hernandez in Paul Pierce's, and Welker in Ray Allen's.

A "Giant" New York Knick

13 of 13

The New York Knicks have loads of talent, but they're 20 games in and they're not proving it. But there's still hope. It's not too late to turn things around.

Just ask Eli Manning.

At one point his, New York team was 7-7. On February 5, they'll be playing in Super Bowl XLVI. Maybe Manning can stop by a Knicks game and provide a bit of inspiration.

That is, if he's not doing anything else of course.
