Tottenham Transfer Rumors: 10 Deadline Day Possibilities for Spurs

Tony MabertJan 30, 2012

To some it may be a crying shame, but to others it will come as blessed relief that deadline day of the January transfer window is almost upon us.

Agents, managers and sporting directors across Europe have turned the dial up to 11 in their efforts to make those last-minute moves a reality.

Traditionally, Tottenham have been consistent operators as the clock counts down to midnight. Even though manger Harry Redknapp has a lot on his plate with his current trial on charges of tax evasion, don't be fooled into thinking that means that the club won't be involved tomorrow evening.

Here are 10 players who could be coming in or going out of Spurs Lodge training ground on January 31.

Leandro Damiao

1 of 10

The striker has been a target for Spurs for a while, but the 22-year-old's price of £22 million continues to be an issue.

Leandro has scored at a rate of a goal every other game for Internacional in the Campeonato Brasileiro, and as such has attracted interest elsewhere.

After their failure to lure AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato to the Parc des Princes, Paris-Saint Germain have reportedly turned to another Brazilian in their efforts to bolster their attacking options. Their newly-acquired wealth means meeting the asking price will not be a problem, but Spurs are hoping their long-held interest in the Brazil international will give them the advantage.

Mario Mandzukic

2 of 10

Another forward Spurs are looking at as a potential long-term replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor, who will most likely return to Manchester City at the end of the season, is Mandzukic.

The striker is the only member of the Wolfsburg squad who is scoring regularly, with eight goals to date this season for the struggling Bundesliga side.

After letting Edin Dzeko leave for England last January, Wolfsburg will be unwilling to let go of their top scorer midway through a campaign for a second year in a row.

However, if Spurs can offer a big enough fee and use their handful of his Croatian compatriots as bargaining chips, the 25-year-old may be tempted with a move to London.

Junior Hoilett

3 of 10

One of the most exciting young prospects in the Premier League, Hoilett is already a permanent fixture on the Blackburn team at the age of 21.

The Canadian forward has been one of the few shining lights in a torrid campaign for Rovers, and the Lancashire club will not be overly keen to sell him as they fight for Premier League survival.

Both Tottenham and Liverpool have registered their interest, but are unwilling to match the £8 million valuation set by Blackburn. But, with the temptation to spend increasing with every passing minute in the countdown to the deadline, that could all change in an instant.

Chris Samba

4 of 10

Hoilett is not the only player currently on Blackburn's books that Tottenham have their eye on.

Samba has been on Spurs' watch list for more than a year, and the big centre-back looks highly likely to leave Ewood Park after handing in a transfer request last week.

The Congolese defender had previously been the subject of interest from Arsenal before the Gunners signed Per Mertesacker instead last summer.

Samba may be more inclined to move to London for a reunion with the man who brought him to England, Mark Hughes, at QPR, but Spurs are very much in the race for his signature too

Loic Remy

5 of 10

Of all the players linked with a move the Tottenham in January, Remy is the player with whom they have been most open in showing their interest.

Redknapp flew out to France to watch the striker play earlier in the month, but it appeared that the club managed by Didier Deschamps would not be willing to sell mid-season.

However, Spurs assistant Joe Jordan admitted in the build-up to Tuesday's Premier League with Wigan that there is still hope of doing a deal, citing the club's record of making last-minute deals.

He said: "In the past, Tottenham have come in with a late purchase and there's always a possibility in football."

Roman Pavlyuchenko

6 of 10

For his wonder strike in Tottenham's play-off first leg against Young Boys, which greatly helped Spurs reach the Champions League group stage last season, Pavlyuchenko will always have a special place in the hearts of the club's fans.

However, such moments of brilliance have been fleeting, and all too often the enigmatic Russia striker has cut a disinterested figure during his three-and-a-half years in north London.

With Euro 2012 fast approaching, "Super Pav" is keen to move somewhere that will see him get regular first-team football. A return to Russia, with Lokomotiv Moscow, looks the most likely switch to come to fruition.

Giovani Dos Santos

7 of 10

The Mexican forward promised much upon his transfer from Barcelona to Tottenham in 2008.

His final appearance for Barca saw him score a hat-trick, but he has only made 14 Premier League appearances since moving to White Hart Lane, without a single goal to his name.

Loan spells have been spent at Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander but he remains on Tottenham's books.

Sevilla's interest was ended earlier this month after they baulked at the fee Spurs were asking, but a return to La Liga could still be on the cards if Villarreal can strike a deal before the deadline

Vedran Corluka

8 of 10

After an impressive single season at Manchester City, where he was signed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, Corluka made the move to Spurs for £8.5 million in 2008.

The Croatian has since provided ever-diminishing returns at White Hart Lane. In his first season he made 29 Premier League appearances. That reduced to 15 in his sophomore year and just three so far in this campaign, thanks to the emergence of right-back Kyle Walker.

To say that the 25-year-old is not blessed with pace would be a generous assessment, but his versatility and technical ability could make him suitable for the Italian game.

To that end, Corluka is reportedly eyeing up a move to Roma, where Luis Enrique's whole defence has had an unsettled look about it all season.

Steven Pienaar

9 of 10

When Tottenham signed the South African midfielder from Everton for a cut-price £3 million last January, it was widely hailed as a shrewd move.

Pienaar chose to join Spurs over Chelsea, and his choice appeared to be the right one as he started both legs of the victorious Champions League tie against AC Milan.

However, since then he has been a peripheral figure, with all four of his starts this season coming in cup competitions.

The 29-year-old wants out, according to reports, and his most likely destination would appear to be Queens Park Rangers.

Sebastien Bassong

10 of 10

The Cameroon defender is another Spurs squad member seemingly bound for Loftus Road.

The club have been trying to get the former Newcastle man off their books for the last few transfer windows, and were put in the bizarre situation of making him captain for a Europa League match back in September just a couple of weeks after they had failed to offload him.

With Michael Dawson finally back from long-term injury and Younes Kaboul enjoying his finest season in a Spurs shirt, the reported double-deal of Bassong and Pienaar may yet be a possibility.
