Georgia Football Recruiting: 5 Positions the Bulldogs Don't Need to Fill in 2012

Brian JonesJan 24, 2012

Recruiting is never an easy thing.

Even the top schools don't always get all of their top guys because when they are dealing with a 17 or 18-year-old kids, they will change their mind at the last minute.

For the Georgia Bulldogs, they have the majority of their targets, but are still looking to add more talent before National Signing Day takes place next week.

Even if they don't sign all the players they want, there are a few positions they don't need to fill this year because of the depth they already have on the roster.

Here are five positions the Bulldogs can get away without filling this year.

Cornerback

1 of 5

It is a need for the Bulldogs, and it was a position that they have tried to address. But they do have a solid group of young players to take over when Sanders Commings and Branden Smith leave.

Jordon Love and Damian Swann saw a good amount of action, and got better as the season progressed. They will play bigger roles next season because they will more likely be the starters in 2013.

However, with Commings' recent run-in with police, his future with the Bulldogs remains unclear, which would mean either Swann or Love would start opposite of Smith when September comes.

Safety

2 of 5

Shawn Williams and Baccarri Rambo are as good of a safety tandem as you will find in the country, and it would be nice if the Bulldogs could land a top-notch safety who could be groomed for one of the two spots for the 2013 season.

But with players on the roster such as Corey Moore and Chris Sanders, the Bulldogs are confident they have enough depth to not have to worry about getting a safety this year.

Moore played a lot on special teams last year, and if he continues to take the next step in his progression, the secondary will be much stronger.

Center

3 of 5

The offensive line was a huge focus for the Bulldogs this year, but they have not and probably will not offer a scholarship to a true center.

The reason for that is they already have two on the roster, and they can convert a guard to a center if need be.

With offensive linemen such as Hunter Long and David Andrews (who could play either guard or center), plus new offensive linemen coming in (one of them could be converted into a center), that position will be fine at least for this season.

Inside Linebacker

4 of 5

The inside linebacker position is talented and has its share of depth.

Alec Ogletree and Christian Robinson were the opening day starters last year, but due to injuries to both players, junior Michael Gilliard and freshman Armarlo Herrera saw a lot more playing time, and the

The coaching staff is also interested to see if Brandon Burrows can help with the group as he comes back from a shoulder injury.

Wide Receiver

5 of 5

The Bulldogs did get Blake Tibb's commitment, but he will likely be the only wide receiver signed for the Bulldogs, and that is OK.

If you watched the Bulldogs' receivers last season, the reason is self explanatory. Freshman Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Conley and Michael Bennett were major players in the Bulldogs' success and are expected to do bigger things in 2012.

And when you add Tavarres King and Marlon Brown in the mix, the wide receiver position is kind of crowded right now. Tibbs will have some work to do if he does not want to redshirt this season.
