Super Bowl 2012: Why New England Patriots Have It in the Bag

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

Finally, the teams are set for Super Bowl XLVI. A rematch between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants is sure to create several heated discussions, especially when Tom Brady and the Patriots win it all.

The Super Bowl may be nearly two weeks away, but it's easy to see why the Patriots will be victorious in Indianapolis. Yes, the Giants beat the Patriots in New England this year, but it's a whole new ballgame this time around and the Patriots will not be denied.

It's expected to be another great game between these two teams, and I would be very surprised if it didn't deliver on that. NFL fans definitely don't want to be let down in the biggest game of the year, and this matchup shouldn't disappoint.

With that said, here's why the Patriots will win it all.

Offense

The Patriots finished the regular season as the second-best passing team but 20th in rushing yards. The Giants, on the other hand, finished as the fifth-best passing team but dead last in rushing yards.

Both teams are thriving in the postseason, but it's obvious that the Patriots are the much better team on offense.

For starters, New England has the better quarterback in Brady. He threw six touchdown passes in his opening playoff game against a good Denver Broncos defense. The Baltimore Ravens did get the best of him, but New York's defense doesn't even come close to Baltimore's.

The Patriots also have better weapons for their quarterback. Sure, the Giants have better depth at wide receiver, but Wes Welker and Deion Branch can get down the field just as quick and also make big plays.

And then there are the tight ends, which are heavily featured in the Patriots offense. Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez create several mismatches for opposing teams, and the same thing will occur on Super Bowl Sunday.

Confidence

Both teams are feeling sky high because they're about to play in the Super Bowl, but given how the Patriots have overcome their poor defensive play all season long, the edge in confidence goes to New England.

The defense has stepped up big time this postseason, helping the Patriots reach the Super Bowl by dominating the Broncos and limiting the production of the Ravens.

Ray Rice wasn't nearly as effective as the Ravens would have liked, and the Patriots also did a great job of forcing the Ravens to kick field goals as opposed to putting six points on the board with a touchdown.

If the Patriots defense doesn't help carry the team against Baltimore, chances are we'd be talking about the Ravens getting ready for the Super Bowl.

It's no secret the Giants have a better defensive unit, but because the Patriots defense is playing better than anyone expected, their confidence levels are off the charts.

Revenge

Having lost to the Giants earlier this year, the Patriots really want to stick it to New York to win on the biggest stage of them all.

Add in the fact the Giants beat the Patriots the last time New England made it to the Super Bowl and ruined their quest for perfection, Brady, Bill Belichick and the rest of the team all want to destroy New York.

Several players saw all the glory taken from them by the Giants in Super Bowl XLII, and there is no doubt that memory is fresh in their mind.

New England hopes to get revenge on New York this time around, and it will happen because the Patriots are more confident and have a better offense. Plus, more often than not, when Belichick aims for revenge, he gets it.
