NFL Playoff Predictions: Game-by-Game Updates All the Way to the Super Bowl
The NFL's Divisional Round was quite the entertaining one. The New York Giants upset the Green Bay Packers, the Baltimore Ravens dominated the Houston Texans, the San Francisco 49ers out-scored the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots ended "Tebow Time."
Taking into consideration to my previous week's playoff predictions, I have come out with a fresh new slate of predictions.
Let's dive right into a game-by-game predictions all the way to Super Bowl XLVI.
What I Got Wrong and What I Got Right
1 of 4I had the New Orleans Saints upsetting the San Francisco 49ers—but I was wrong. Alex Smith and the 49ers rose to the occasion and managed to out-score the Saints, 36-32. Smith completed a 14-yard touchdown to Vernon Davis with just nine seconds left.
I had flip-flopped all week long and ultimately landed on the Houston Texans upsetting the Baltimore Ravens, but that did not happen. T.J. Yates was simply too inexperienced for Baltimore's suffocating defense.
The two predictions I got correct were the New England Patriots over the Denver Broncos—which was an obvious one—and the New York Giants upsetting the Green Bay Packers.
AFC Championship: Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots
2 of 4Over the course of the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era with the New England Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens have only beaten the Patriots once—and that came back in early 2010 in the playoffs. The Ravens completely embarrassed the Patriots by a 33-14 score.
This is not the same Patriots from the 2009—Brady and New England's offense is far more dangerous with their two young tight ends in Rob Gronkowsi and Aaron Hernandez, along with Wes Welker and Deion Branch.
Baltimore's defense is definitely one of the top tiers in the NFL, but Brady and the Patriots are white-hot and will force Joe Flacco and the Ravens to throw the ball early and often—ultimately the Ravens will be unable to keep up, similar to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.
Prediction: New England 31, Baltimore 17
NFC Championship: New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers
3 of 4Riding off of a huge victory over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, the New York Giants will continue their magical playoff ride next Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers.
New York's pass rush is simply too much to handle—Jason Pierre-Paul is playing out of his mind right now and will feast on Alex Smith. New York's pass rush will force Smith to turn the ball over—something that he did very little of in 2011.
I don't care how dominant the 49ers defense has been this season—Eli Manning will find a way to demolish it with Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz running wild as usual.
Prediction: New York 24, San Francisco 20
Super Bowl XLVI: New York Giants vs. New England Patriots
4 of 4A rematch of Super Bowl XLII—what could be better?
It was four years ago when the New York Giants ruined the New England Patriots perfect season by shocking the world and beating the 18-0 Patriots, 17-14.
However, this is four years later and Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots will get their redemption.
It was 10 years ago when Brady and Belichick won their very first Super Bowl together over the St. Louis Rams, and on its 10 year anniversary, they'll return to the top of the football world.
Prediction: New England 21, New York 17
