2012 NFL Free Agents: Teams That Will Overpay for Packers QB Matt Flynn
It is ridiculous to think that a player like the Green Bay Packers' back-up quarterback Matt Flynn, who has started only two games in his entire career, is going to make some big money as an NFL free agent this offseason.
Luckily for Flynn, many teams are desperate for a quarterback, and his brief performances have been convincing enough that many teams will envision to be their long-term option under center.
Against the New England Patriots last season, Flynn made his first ever start in the NFL. He completed 24-of-37 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns. He also had an interception that game, but it was quite an impressive outing despite the loss—not to mention they were on the road.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Flynn got the nod yet again this season, as the Packers had home field all locked up. They give him the start in the team's Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions, and he had the performance of a lifetime. One that will guarantee him a huge contract.
In that game, he completed 31 of his 44 passes while just making a joke out of the Lions' pass defense. Flynn sat on the bench all year, but he still managed to toss six TDs with only one pick for 480 yards. If teams weren't convinced before, they were now.
These teams will be looking to roll the dice on their future on an unproven quarterback in Flynn.
While many will argue that Tim Tebow will be the future quarterback of the Broncos organization, the team may decide that attaining a quarterback with mechanics and the abilities that Flynn has will be too good to pass.
There is no denying what Tebow has done and brought to the Broncos this season, but in the end, he really just isn't a true quarterback who is going to lead your team each weekend. He has a lot of passion, and that certainly shows through his play and the type of effort it brings out in his teammates.
Will he be able to keep it up next season, though? One has to really wonder how long he can continue to get away with what he has been doing all season long. He has a lot of ability, but who knows how long it will take for him to fully develop into that quarterback they are hoping to see.
John Elway and John Fox may decide it won't be the best decision for the franchise, but it would be shocking if they didn't put some interest into Flynn.
The Chiefs certainly lost out the last time they took a chance on a player like this. They signed quarterback Matt Cassel following the success he had filling in for Tom Brady.
While he has been often injured, it is becoming quite convincing that he was simply a product of the New England Patriots offense, rather than being a good quarterback.
The team would certainly being taking that risk yet again if they brought in Flynn, but the Chiefs have a good team. They likely would have done much better this past season if they didn't lose so many key players early on.
The addition of Flynn would give the Chiefs an arm that could really release the potential of receiver Dwayne Bowe.
Flynn would certainly be an interesting option, but will they be willing to take a chance like this yet again?
San Francisco 49ers
Under Jim Harbaugh, quarterback Alex Smith is starting to finally look like a viable option for a starting passer in the NFL.
Still, many have to wonder just how good this team could be if they had a quarterback who could go off like Flynn.
In just two games, Flynn has nine touchdown passes, which is more than half as many as Smith had this entire season.
With weapons like Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis at their expense, this team could be unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball if they were able to insert the arm that Flynn possesses.
It will remain to be seen if the 49ers will decide to move on from Smith after the team earned a first-round bye this NFL postseason.
A player like Flynn will be hard to ignore considering the potential this team has for many years to come.
