NBA Rumors: Struggling Celtics Foolish Not to Bring Back Rasheed Wallace

Nicholas GossJun 5, 2018

The Boston Celtics are struggling to beat good teams this season and need more depth in the front court, which means general manager Danny Ainge must look to make a move and bolstering the roster.

With former Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace reportedly contemplating a comeback, Boston's lack of interest in the 37-year-old is really concerning. From CSNNE.com:

"

A league source told CSNNE.com Friday morning that the Boston Celtics have no interest in bringing the 37-year-old veteran back to the team.

Ainge did tell CSNNE.com that he will continue to keep an eye out for potential additions to the roster, but isn't in a hurry to make any significant changes.

"If there's one player that's going to come in and make a difference, that we can get for a minimum contract, we'll look into that, for sure," Ainge said.

Wallace has not played an NBA game since the 2010 NBA Finals, where his Celtics lost a seven-game series to the Los Angeles Lakers.

With only the injury-plagued Jermaine O'Neal and a young and inexperienced Greg Stiemsma, the Celtics need help at center.

Wallace would give the Celtics some versatility in the front court as he can play both power forward and center effectively.

We know he can shoot well from the outside, and even in his late-30s, he could give the Celtics a rebounding boost.

In the Celtics' most recent loss to the Dallas Mavericks, they gave up 12 offensive rebounds. That is atrocious and the Celtics  will not get past the first round of the playoffs at their current rate.

Being ranked 29th out of 30 NBA teams in rebounding isn't good enough for a veteran team that understands the importance of boxing out and finishing strong defensive possessions with a rebound.

The biggest concern about Wallace is what kind of shape he could be in. He hasn't played NBA basketball in over a year, so it would be interesting to see how long it takes him to adjust to the speed of the game.

There aren't many, if any, better options out there for Ainge, and Wallace would be an inexpensive addition. Given the Celtics' struggles this season, signing Wallace is a no-brainer.
