MLB Trade Deadline 2024: Date, End Time, Hottest Rumors, Predictions and More
As the 2024 MLB trade deadline rapidly approaches, baseball's top teams and playoff hopefuls are eying their last chance to improve their rosters ahead of the postseason. The non-contenders, meanwhile, still have an opportunity to cash in impeding free agents or acquire promising prospects for the future.
The trade deadline is always an exciting time in the baseball world, even if it doesn't deliver many blockbuster deals. It allows for a little bit of a landscape shake-up between the All-Star break and the stretch run.
This year's deadline will come at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 30, and it's likely to bring a final flurry of activity. Players like Michael Lorenzen, Tucker Davidson, Garrett Cooper and Josh Bell were dealt on deadline day last season.
Here, you'll find a look at the latest buzz and a few predictions ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
Desire for a Extension Could Hinder a Garrett Crochet Trade

The Chicago White Sox are not among the contenders list and could be big sellers at or before the deadline. One of the biggest names reportedly available is 25-year-old starting pitcher Garrett Crochet.
Crochet has fared well in his first season as a full-time starter, notching a 6-7 record and an All-Star nod. Teams better positioned for the playoffs than Chicago would certainly love to add him.
However, his market could become complicated by his desire to receive an immediate extension could potentially impact his trade market. According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, Crochet wants an extension if traded before he'll pitch in the postseason and doesn't want to pitch out of the bullpen.
"Given these contingencies and concerns about Crochet's workload down the stretch, some in the industry have started to believe the southpaw might remain on the South Side through the deadline," Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports wrote on Thursday.
However, the prediction here is that while Crochet's market could be limited by his contract and usage preferences, they won't prevent him from being dealt. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on Saturday that "the market for Crochet remains active."
A deal may not come through the transaction wire before Tuesday, but expect Crochet to spend the rest of the season with a contender.
Prediction: Crochet is dealt before the deadline.
Pirates Targeted Jazz Chisholm Jr., Interested in Bryan De La Cruz

The Miami Marlins haven't been as bad as the White Sox, but they're firmly in the NFL East basement. Miami reportedly made one seller's move on Saturday, sending outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the New York Yankees.
According to The Athletic's Brendan Kuty, the Marlins will receive Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez in the deal.
New York was far from the only team interested in adding the talented young outfielder, though, which is no surprise. Chisholm has been a solid offensive producer this season—he entered Saturday's game with a .249 batting average and 50 RBI—and there was no shortage of teams looking to add him to their offensive lineup.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees all had interest in the 26-year-old. With Chisholm going to New York, Pittsburgh may now pivot to another Marlins outfielder.
Rosenthal reported on Thursday that the Pirates have been "scouting Chisholm and Marlins left fielder Bryan De La Cruz.
While Chisholm would have been a nearly ideal match for the Pirates, De La Cruz can be a fine consolation prize. The prediction here is that Pittsburgh nabs him.
Prediction: Pirates Acquire De La Cruz Before The Deadline.
Yankees May Not Be Done

Landing Chisholm was a big get for the Yankees, who are in a tight race with the Orioles in the AL East. With the ability to shine in the outfield or at second base, he should help provide an offensive boost and provide some defensive flexibility.
However, New York probably isn't done adding pieces. It has had "numerous conversations" with the Tampa Bay Rays with third baseman Isaac Paredes, first baseman Yandy Díaz and reliever Pete Fairbanks as potential targets, Jack Curry of YES Network reported on Saturday.
Any of these players could help the Yankees, who have been spiraling since June. After adding one bat to the lineup in Chisholm, Fairbanks might be the most logical target. There have been mixed reports regarding New York's pursuit, though.
Randy Miller of NJ.com reported on Saturday that the Yankees are in "serious talks" to acquire Fairbanks. However, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported later in the day that "nothing is close" regarding a Fairbanks deal between the Yankees and the Rays.
Of course, the two teams can simultaneously be in serious talks and not near to an agreement. There's still time for New York to close the gap, and the prediction here is that it does.
The Yankees need to be aggressive if they hope to ed their slide and return to the postseason. It could come as a significant surprise if they're anything but.
Prediction: Yankees Add Multiple Players, Including Fairbanks, By Tuesday.
