White Sox Unveil Rendering Photos For Proposed New Stadium in Chicago's South Loop Neighborhood

Chicago White Sox leaders have provided new details about a proposed plan to move the team to the city's riverfront.

White Sox minority owner Justin Ishbia and his development company Canal Edge released new renderings of a proposed new stadium in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood, according to The Athletic's John Greenberg.

The stadium would be part of a mixed-development district including a potential healthcare facility, which Ishbia's company has named "The Railyards," according to Greenberg.

The White Sox announced in June 2025 Ishbia would be joining the front office as a minority owner with the possibility of eventually obtaining a controlling stake. Current owner Jerry Reinsdorf can first sell controlling interest to Ishbia between 2029 and 2033, and Ishbia can acquire it after the 2034 season.

The club is currently on a lease with Rate Field that expires in 2029. Crain's Chicago Business first reported in 2023 the White Sox had begun looking into other stadium options.

Danny Ecker and Justin Lawrence reported in March for Crain's a private equity firm owned by Ishbia was planning to purchase 47 acres of land in the South Loop from Amtrak.

The land is across the river from The 78, the campus on which the Chicago Fire broke ground in March for a new stadium set to open ahead of the 2028 MLS season.

There was some pushback from members of the Chicago government regarding the plan following the release of the ballpark renderings, per NBC 5 Chicago.

Jason Ervin, alderman whose ward encompasses most of the relevant area, said in a statement "any proposal must protect taxpayers and demonstrate that the public benefits justify any public investment," per ABC 7 Chicago.
