Derrick Rose's Top 10 Plays of His Career
It's only his fourth season, but Derrick Rose has already turned into a highlight factory. However, in order to condense them into an ultimate package, we bring you the top 10 of his career. Here's a breakdown on how he manages to pull off these moves and how deadly they are to defenses.
Feast your eyes and mind on the forthcoming slides, what you see might defy physics.
10. Crossover on Tyreke Evans
1 of 10We've all heard about ballers breaking ankles, but it is a rare sight to see that in the NBA where everyone is quick. That is why it is so entertaining to see a fast guy like Tyreke get his ankles broken by an even faster guy, Derrick Rose. Rose can always blow by people, but if he breaks people's ankles like this, he can just walk by them.
9. Really High Floater vs. Hawks During Playoffs
2 of 10While this play might not awe the crowd or cause you to get off your seat, it is a really high-difficulty shot to make. This is one of those plays where slow motion tells more of the story.
As you can see, Rose makes a floater from a reasonably far distance over the high-flying Josh Smith. A shot like that needs to be perfect. Not only was this shot very high, as it needed to be, but it also drained nothing but net. A shot that high coming down has a great chance to hit the rim even a little and bounce right off, but Rose timed and aimed perfectly with a soft touch.
8. Buzzer-Beater Game-Tying Shot Against Rockets
3 of 10In a game where the Bulls trailed against a mediocre Rockets team and Rose was struggling to make plays or get to the foul line, who else but the MVP took over? The Bulls fought their way back into the game and Derrick Rose came up with the buzzer-tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime, where the Bulls eventually won the game.
Noah set a beautiful pick, but then Rose shot an even more beautiful shot over the two giants of the Rockets in Brad Miller, who is 7'0", and Luis Scola, who is 6'9".
Like Stacey King said, big-time players make big-time plays.
7. Block on Collison and Spin Move on 3 Players in 20 Seconds
4 of 10Big-time players come up with big-time plays during the playoffs, and that is exactly what Rose pulled off against the Indiana Pacers in the 2010-2011 playoffs. Rose gets picked by the screen, which allows his man, Collison, to blow by to the rim. However, Rose doesn't give up, and ends up with a clean block that leaves the crowd in awe.
The awes continue as he quickly gets the ball, sprints up the court and puts the Indiana players in a spin cycle, as he finishes with a layup at the other end. Wow, what else can you really say?
6. Rose Finishing on LeBron and Wade
5 of 10Dwayne Wade's nickname is Flash. LeBron is known for being a freight truck going at 100 mph.
These facts obviously don't matter to Rose, who runs by Wade and LeBron, and at the same time avoids being blocked and finishes the play. Wade and LeBron are great shot blockers, probably the best at their respective positions, which makes Rose's play even more unbelievable.
5. Dunking with Both Hands on Joel Anthony
6 of 10Listen, I don't care if it is Joel Anthony. People might not regard him as a decent player, but he is actually a good defensive player, and that is his role on the Heat.
So D-Rose dunking with both hands over Anthony without initiating contact is pretty amazing. Anthony is half a foot taller than Rose, yet Rose still managed to jump higher than him, and the hoop, to deliver a throwdown that leaves Reggie Miller going crazy.
4. Game-Winner Against Lakers on Christmas Opening Day
7 of 10In a hostile environment and in an ugly game by the Bulls, Derrick Rose delivered the perfect opening day Christmas present by making the game-winning shot. Give props to Luol Deng of making a terrific defensive play in giving a steal, but then Rose finished on the other end and did what he does best.
A clutch jump shot, and not just an ordinary jump shot, but a difficult floater from near the free-throw line, over Derrick Fisher and, more amazingly, over Pau Gasol, who is a seven-footer. Rose gave himself and his team a victory and Bulls fans a perfect Christmas gift.
3. Behind-the-Head Dunk on Gallinari
8 of 10The Knicks are not known for their defense, but this dunk by Derrick Rose might look bad on any defense.
He quickly gets the ball, gathers himself and then launches himself into the air and dunks on Gallinari. The ball is so far behind his head that it is surprising he doesn't lose it or falls down before he dunks. There is not a single point guard in the league who could make that play and very few players alone who could as well.
It's got to be something that allows him to get airborne like that. Maybe it's the shoes?
2. Rose Double Clutch on Dragic
9 of 10This is probably Rose's first really nasty dunk on a player in his second season, as he just posterizes Gordon Dragic of the Phoenix Suns. He ran the length of the court in a blur, caught the ball, bounced the ball, double clutched, jumped high as a human can go and dunked it on Dragic's face.
The crowd was even amazed by it, as the game was in Phoenix and the Bull's bench had to be contained by the assistant coach and Lindsey Hunter because this was just nasty, nasty and more nasty.
Oh yeah, he also got fouled on the play.
1. Brewer Alley-Oop to D. Rose
10 of 10Let's make this clear, after all these highlights, D-Rose has demonstrated he can pull just about any move on the court. But if he starts beating players by going up for alley-oops, it really is not fair.
For all you Bulls fans out there, I know you love this and have seen it a thousand times and loved it every time. For everyone else out there, this is a point guard going high for an alley-oop.
That's right, a point guard.
Usually, it's the other way around, but I guess science can't prove everything. And yes, that is an elevator.
