Jordan Addison and 5 Other Players to Target Now to Win Your Fantasy Football League
Half of the 2023 fantasy football regular season is done, making this the ideal time to start thinking about the playoffs and what it will take to win your league's championship.
If you've gotten off to a slow start, it's not too late to turn things around. Making a few solid free-agent pickups or a blockbuster trade could be all you need to go on a run.
Even those atop the standings shouldn't rest on their laurels. Several of the NFL's top stars have suffered injuries that have altered the fantasy landscape. A manager who drafted players like Anthony Richardson, Nick Chubb and Justin Jefferson may have fared great early in the campaign but is now scrambling to secure replacements.
Having solid depth and high-upside talent waiting on the bench will make it much easier to weather rough patches brought on via bye weeks and injuries.
Keep that in mind as you check out this list of targets who have league-winning potential. These players may not have moved the needle much over the first seven weeks, but all have started trending upward.
Whether you are able to find them in the free-agent pile or need to swing a trade to acquire them, make it a top priority to get a few of these names on your roster before their stock goes through the roof.
Keaton Mitchell, RB, Baltimore Ravens
1 of 6
The Baltimore Ravens can't seem to catch a break at the running back position.
After losing starter J.K. Dobbins in the season opener, rookie Keaton Mitchell is now week-to-week with a hamstring injury he suffered Sunday against the Detroit Lions. While he might miss some time, he's still worth adding to a fantasy roster.
The 21-year-old caught on with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent this spring following a strong collegiate career at East Carolina. He spent the first five weeks of the campaign on injured reserve before making his debut against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 on special teams. While he finally got involved with the offense last week, he only saw two snaps and caught a single pass for nine yards before exiting.
Despite this setback, Mitchell could soon be playing a prominent role for Baltimore's ground game. Neither Justice Hill nor Gus Edwards has inspired much confidence filling in for Dobbins, with the pair combining for a middling 542 yards and five touchdowns on the year.
The lack of big-play ability from the two veterans has left Lamar Jackson, who leads the team with 363 yards and five scores on his 69 totes, shouldering much of the rushing load.
Given their need to protect the quarterback after Jackson finished the last two seasons with injuries, the Ravens should be open to increasing Mitchell's playing time upon his return.
The 5'9", 191-pound back possesses speed in spades and is an electrifying runner who will hit home runs if he gets the opportunity.
Jordan Addison, WR, Minnesota Vikings
2 of 6
Jordan Addison was one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2023 draft class, but fantasy expectations for the wideout were immediately tempered after he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings.
As great as the 21-year-old was during his stints at both Pittsburgh and USC, landing in the same offense as arguably the NFL's best wide receiver meant he would be facing an uphill battle for fantasy relevance.
While Justin Jefferson started the season as the top target by far in Minnesota's passing attack, Addison was able to capitalize on the defensive attention his teammate commanded and quickly made the most of his limited targets.
The rookie scored in each of his first two professional games and tallied double-digit point totals in all but one game in which he shared the field with Jefferson.
Ever since the three-time Pro Bowler went down against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5, Addison has raised his play to another level. He's racked up 10 catches on 15 targets, turning those grabs into 151 yards and three scores. Much of that production came on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers this past week, a contest that will be remembered as his breakout game.
Addison torched one of the best defenses in football for a career-high 123 yards and two touchdowns after securing seven of the 10 passes thrown his way. He finished as the week's top-scoring receiver in fantasy, his first of what will likely be many placements inside the top 15.
While the USC product is currently rostered in 92 percent of leagues, he hadn't eclipsed the 20-point mark until Monday. His value may have spiked up following his outburst against the 49ers, but you may still be able to get him for a reasonable trade cost heading into Week 8.
Marvin Mims Jr., WR, Denver Broncos
3 of 6
The Denver Broncos have been an utter mess this season.
While there's plenty of blame to go around, one of the most disappointing developments surrounding their downtrodden offense is the lack of usage rookie wideout Marvin Mims Jr. has received.
The second-rounder has only seen the field for 28 percent of the offensive snaps, but his playing time could trend upward if the Broncos end up trading members of their receiving corps away at the deadline.
Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy have both been included in trade speculation as the Oct. 31 deadline draws nearer. The Broncos are amid yet another lost season and would be wise to stockpile as much draft capital as possible. Dealing one or even both of these pass-catchers would not only net them some premium draft picks, but it would also open the door for Mims to take on a much bigger role.
The 21-year-old has shown enough in his limited number of touches to warrant more work. Despite having just 14 total touches in the NFL, he's managed to generate an impressive 248 yards from scrimmage and score a touchdown.
His best showing came in Week 2 when he turned his two catches into 113 yards and a score, and he added another 10 yards on two totes. He followed that up with another strong outing the following week, tallying 73 yards on three receptions.
While Mims hasn't seen much volume in the last three games—he has just one catch for four yards in that span—he's the perfect high-upside candidate for fantasy managers to stash. He may not be startable for another week or two, but the Oklahoma product who is rostered in 19 percent of leagues could eventually be remembered as a shrewd pickup.
Jalin Hyatt, WR, New York Giants
4 of 6
The New York Giants receiving corps hasn't been a bastion for fantasy football production, but the unit could soon see one of its young pass-catchers break out in a big way.
Jalin Hyatt has the potential to shake off a slow start to his career and become a feature piece of Big Blue's offense down the stretch.
The 22-year-old has been off the fantasy radar in 2023, securing nine balls for 195 yards. He's yet to find the end zone, but it should only be a matter of time before he's celebrating a score due to an uptick in targets.
Hyatt seems to be growing more comfortable in the offense and just saw a career high of five passes come his way in Week 7. While he did manage to catch two of them for 75 yards, his stock is still relatively low as he's currently available in 95 percent of leagues.
Savvy managers will want to pick up Hyatt now before things start to truly click for the Tennessee product. With New York a strong candidate to become sellers at the trade deadline, the young wideout may quickly become a more prominent part of its passing attack.
Tre Tucker, WR, Las Vegas Raiders
5 of 6
Not much was expected from third-round rookie Tre Tucker heading into the 2023 season.
The Las Vegas Raiders didn't seem to need a slot receiver due to Hunter Renfrow's presence on the roster, but the first-year pass-catcher is rapidly becoming a key piece of this team's offense.
While Tucker unsurprisingly opened the year buried on the bench—he was inactive in Week 1 and then saw just two targets and was held without a catch in the initial four games he was available for—things began to change in Week 6.
The 22-year-old finally hauled in his first pair of NFL receptions against the New England Patriots, turning them into 57 yards.
That performance prompted head coach Josh McDaniels to give Tucker a sizable increase in playing time. He saw the field for nearly half of the offensive snaps this past Sunday, catching two of his three targets for 16 yards while also drawing a 46-yard pass interference penalty.
With Tucker's blazing speed and ability to be utilized as a rusher—he has four carries for 56 yards on the season—it's only a matter of time before he becomes a fantasy asset. He's providing a spark to a Las Vegas offense that desperately needed one and is going to continue to eat into the oft-injured Renfrow's workload.
While almost no one has Tucker on their roster right now—he's available in just about every single league—those in deeper formats shouldn't be afraid to roll the dice on the burgeoning slot receiver.
Once you factor in Renfrow's struggles—he has a pedestrian eight catches for 73 yards this year—it seems likely Tucker eventually replaces the veteran as the team's go-to slot option.
Taysom Hill, TE, New Orleans Saints
6 of 6
It seemed Taysom Hill's days as a fantasy-relevant player were over during the first five weeks of the 2023 season.
The 33-year-old only drew six targets in that span, and outside of having nine carries in Week 2, the hybrid quarterback-running back-tight end didn't seem to factor heavily into the New Orleans Saints' offensive plans.
Those plans appear to have shifted in Week 6 when Hill got much more involved against the Houston Texans, finishing the matchup having caught seven of his eight targets for 49 yards. He also rushed once for two yards and completed a four-yard pass in the contest.
The BYU product proved that wasn't a flash-in-the-pan performance when he followed it up with a four-catch, 50-yard receiving outing in Week 7. He didn't attempt a pass in that clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he did log five carries and turned them into 18 yards and a touchdown.
Hill now has back-to-back top-six finishes at the tight end position and looks to be a must-start at a spot that is notoriously difficult for fantasy production. While some of his increase in volume was due to Juwan Johnson's absence, the Saints secured a much-needed win with Hill playing a big role and should keep him involved going forward.
Managers will likely be able to find Hill on the scrap heap, as he's only rostered in 10 percent of leagues right now.
