4 Wrestlers Who Will Disappear After WWE WrestleMania 39
A big part of the appeal of WrestleMania season is seeing which past greats and even names from outside the pro wrestling sphere take part in the festivities.
It's almost equally as interesting to see who disappears once the last bit of confetti falls.
Was the legend returning for a fight or promo a one-off thing? Is that Superstar who obviously needs a break going to go out on their back at 'Mania and actually take time off?
Questions abound, but at least a few of the answers seem obvious enough. There are returning Superstars, part-timers and even full-time members of the roster who seem like candidates to disappear after WrestleMania 39. Reasons include injury, other obligations and more.
Keep in mind these Superstars might pop up briefly on the annually celebrated Raw after The Show of Shows that provides closure and lays the groundwork for the next year.
Either way, the following names will swiftly disappear as 'Mania season ends.
Ronda Rousey
1 of 4At one point, it seemed like Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler would challenge for the women's tag titles at WrestleMania.
But rumblings of a Rousey injury and not even working house shows while off television have changed the outlook. As of this writing, women's tag champs Becky Lynch and Lita will clash with Damage CTRL alongside Trish Stratus on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
This is WWE, though, so it seems likely Rousey will be at 'Mania in some capacity. According to F4WOnline's Dave Meltzer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), the plan remains for her to have a match.
But with the tag titles and both women's belts already tied up, it would seem Rousey is headed for an absence due to a combination of possible injury and a general break from action until the logjam clears a bit in the championship scenes.
John Cena
2 of 4Speaking of modern legends who will use one of their final appearances to put over the next generation, John Cena is the best example possible.
Fans haven't seen Cena (the jokes write themselves, folks) since December in a tag match. And before that, his most prominent appearance was a title match loss to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam in 2021.
Expect more of the same here. Cena is matched with United States champion Austin Theory, whom he will presumably put over in a big way. It's a fitting match given the veteran's extensive history with that title and the similarities between himself and the 25-year-old.
While Theory gets the major boost, Cena will fade to the background again and tackle his acting roles until the next one-off, since WWE would have made it obvious by now if he was planning to retire.
Brock Lesnar
3 of 4If there was ever a surefire year for Brock Lesnar to go on first and leave before the halfway point of Night 1, this is it.
The Beast Incarnate is notorious for going out on the first match of a card at events these days if he doesn't main-event, and that won't be happening this year against Omos.
That's no shade toward the matchup. Fans might have wanted to see Lesnar take on someone much more prominent, like Gunther. But this is a fun matchup, as The Beast encounters a giant who towers over him.
On paper, this should elevate Omos to new heights, which is how WWE should use Lesnar in the twilight of his career.
Even if the showdown has a dusty finish that requires another encounter, it's a spectacle match saved for the biggest events. That means letting Omos do his thing while fans likely don't see Lesnar until King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia on May 27, if not SummerSlam.
Roman Reigns
4 of 4If Roman Reigns loses the unified titles to Cody Rhodes in the main event at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, it's safe to say he's headed for a hiatus.
But if is still very much the outlook. Reigns winning would be the shock-value result at this point and let WWE get him closer to that rare 1,000-day reign. Plus, it would extend the amazing Bloodline storyline, giving guys like Sami Zayn, Solo Sikoa and Jey Uso more run before a family-based finish.
Still, if The Tribal Chief loses, it is easy to see him assuming an almost part-time role while Rhodes takes over as the top face ready to take on all challengers. That would enable Reigns to further dip his toes into Hollywood and still come back for major bouts with stars like Jey Uso to continue the family narrative.
In fact, the idea of Reigns essentially becoming the next final-boss-type like Lesnar has been appealing for a while now.
